As a homeschool mom, I have learned that there are a thousand programs for every subject taught in school. Because of this, I have decided to get a curriculum and stick with it as long as possible. When I heard about Math Mammoth, I wanted to try it out. It contains math levels 1-7 in one easily downloaded bundle for one relatively low price! That's my kind of program. My kids also do not act like it is torture to do math with this program!

I was able to use homeschool buyers coop to get an even better deal than listed online. I then downloaded each set and was able to print them off and start using them immediately. We use them in page protectors so that they can be used with multiple kids using a wet erase marker.
It is relatively easy for the kids to work their way through the book on their own. I also plan to supplement with Math U See videos and other videos as necessary. I also loved math growing up so I am able to teach where needed.
Math Mammoth is great because it offers affordable, quality math texts and workbooks. They are available as both downloads and printed books, but I prefer the download as it arrives immediately! They encourage the students to use mental math and the directions are written to the student which basically makes them able to teach themselves. There are different series of books to choose from and they are color coded. We use the Light Blue Series which covers grades 1-7 and it also has lesson plans available. Their website also includes videos, free downloads and math assessment tests. It is a great website to check out if you are interested in math curriculum.

I'm glad I came across this wonderful post. I'm currently an undergraduate student studying petroleum engineering and I certainly do like to brainstorm with mathematics. I'll love to get the copy too, it's always good refreshing the brain with some good basic mathematics.

Looks great. My son is right now too young to use it but I know of a few people who are homeschooling their kids and would find this useful. You should also do a post on how to encourage the kids to listen to you and learn from you when you homeschool them because I think I would always find that difficult- asking my son to learn from me at home.

They really don't have any other option. ;) I am the principal and the teacher and the parent. They don't want to get in trouble for not listening and doing what they are supposed to. This is all they have ever known and the kids are pretty good in general. When we have issues, we get them figured out and sometimes Dad helps or they lose video games or dessert.

I would like to hear a post from you regarding structure of your homeschooling as that was a HUGE issue for me getting homeschooled in the 90's. My mom's thought was as long as it got done. Flexibility is the beauty of it she'd say. Obviously she got it right as I have three lucrative college degrees.

My kids are all in Year 3 or less of Ambleside which is pretty much as close to "unschooling" as you can get. And Year 3 is the last of the "easy" years. Sometimes a week of lessons will take us two or three weeks. Not because we're so into it but because we take so many days off to go to David and do grocery shopping, field trips, playing with friends, cleaning the house, unpacking boxes... ;) I'm pretty flexible and right now I just do what I can to get through our lessons. My kids do not read on their own (the school material), so it is a lot on me to get done. Once we officially get settled here (soon I hope), I'm going to come up with a routine that works for us. ;) Right now, we usually do school from 1-3 because it fits in that time and it's usually raining then (in rainy season).

I definitely think it doesn't need to be structured so fiercely. Because that's not natural. The field trips are also a huge part of learning about life.
