According to the Australian Department of Education, international students are enrolling in unprecedented numbers. Almost a quarter of the Australian university enrollments are that of international students. 31% of international student enrollments come from China and then followed closely by India, Nepal, Malaysia and Vietnam - safe to say that this makes up close to half of the current international student intake.
All this despite the hate and racism which has plagued Australia over the last 5 - 10 years against Asian students. Indian/South Asian students were a major target of physical racist attacks only a few years ago ( and I know this still happens) and now with all the sinophobia and fear mongering about Chinese students being spies etc. Most likely these numbers will decrease in the next few years from Asia and deservedly so due to the hate that is out there.
