A good friend of mine, Dr.B @chrismadno told me about this online self paced learning course called:
Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies by Princeton University
https://www.coursera.org/learn/cryptocurrency/
This course is absolutely great to understand the technology and details of Bitcoin, blockchain and altcoins as well as related topics such as politics, ecosystems, etc.
and the best thing it is for free and available offline.
I downloaded the coursera app and also downloaded the video course material to get educated on my commute to work =)
Syllabus
It is an 11 week program (currently @ week2 but you can still catch up, no worries). The weekly chapters are set up as follows:
- Introduction to Crypto and Cryptocurrencies
- How Bitcoin Achieves Decentralization
- Mechanics of Bitcoin
- How to Store and Use Bitcoins
- Bitcoin Mining
- Bitcoin and Anonymity
- Community, Politics, and Regulation
- Alternative Mining Puzzles
- Bitcoin as a Platform
- Altcoins and the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem
- The Future of Bitcoin?
Each chapter is divided into an average of 6 Sub topics (videos). These provide further details and insights on various topics:
- cryptography
- mining
- mathematical problems & solutions
- decentralization
- politics
- consensus mechanisms
- altcoins
- future outlook
- and more...
Each video is presented by one of 4 professors in total. Their explanations, backed by powerpoint material are really easy to follow. Of course you are also able to play videos again and even slow down or speed up the tempo of the video, which is a nice feature.
Programming Assignments
In addition some chapters include a total of 3 Programming Assignments:
(I have not completed the first one yet, but think it is possible to pass 60%^^)
- Scrooge Coin
- Consensus from Trust
- Block Chain
There is an option to get a certification after successful completion i believe, but if you just want to learn and increase your knowledge it is not mandatory. So keep on getting educated.
Discussion Forum
Another nice feature is a discussion forum for participants, where you can exchange thoughts, questions and so on:
About this Course(quoted)
"To really understand what is special about Bitcoin, we need to understand how it works at a technical level. We’ll address the important questions about Bitcoin, such as: How does Bitcoin work? What makes Bitcoin different? How secure are your Bitcoins? How anonymous are Bitcoin users? What determines the price of Bitcoins? Can cryptocurrencies be regulated? What might the future hold? After this course, you’ll know everything you need to be able to separate fact from fiction when reading claims about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. You’ll have the conceptual foundations you need to engineer secure software that interacts with the Bitcoin network. And you’ll be able to integrate ideas from Bitcoin in your own projects. Course Lecturers: Arvind Narayanan, Princeton University"
Steemit Education
Let me know if you like this course and if you are taking part as well?
