World of Wallcharts Series #14 - FILM

in education •  7 years ago

This world of wallcharts curation series has taken a little hiatus, but following Oscars fever its worth popping back into the world of infographics and wallcharts to see what delectable cinema popcharts we can find on the interwebs.

As always, the previous curations in this series thus-far are available here:
1. Space 2. Music 3. Love 4. Flowers 5. Typography 6. Wine 7. Americana 8. Pets 9. Language 10. Dinosaurs 11. Kitchen 12. Birds 13. Literature

Let's start with a classic movie scratch-off poster list courtesy of Brooklyn-based studio Pop Chart Lab. What I love about scratch-off posters is the gamification theme of the infographic - you want to complete the poster by seeing as many films as possible. How many have you seen?

Classic movies are fantastic to watch, but sometimes it's comforting just to dip into the brainless output of a popcorn flick. For good or bad, we will be getting a deluge of these in 2018. This infographic from Filmboss./Adrian Perez illustrates the blockbusters being released this year from six major Hollywood studios:

As in previous charts that I have featured in this curation, I do love an anatomical dissection of the language used within a certain context, and this clinical analysis of notable sentences from action films
(from Pop Chart Lab) is both accurate and funny in a surreal way:

There are some classic film series which lend themselves to a collection in the form of a wallchart, and Pop Chart Lab provides a beautiful cornucopia of objects from the Harry Potter world, I can't think of anything which is missing from this:

Another classic film series, of course, is Star Wars. I am always rather sad that the iconic influence of Star Wars has been dulled a little by the weaker prequel series, but this fine wallchart from Shutterstock presents the influence of Star Wars on manifold plotlines, genres and special effects later on:

One of my favourite films, which lends itself to a graphic analysis, is Inception from Christopher Nolan. This simple but effective wallchart from Rick Slusher aptly illustrates the various architectural levels in the film's dream planes all the way from reality to limbo:

Finally as a bonus, one of the films which was a bastion of my childhood, Coming to America, has its characters loving depicted by Pop Chart Lab here. I had no idea that both Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall played four characters each in the film!
