I like learning new things but I don’t like being taught. It’s not that I think I know everything already, it’s just that I tend to either understand things intuitively or I need to work through them myself at a pace most teachers can’t maintain. I might spend weeks studying something that other students pick up in minutes or I might just ‘know’ before the explanation is complete. That’s why I like MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courseware).
MOOCs let me learn at my own pace and dabble in all sorts of subjects without paying or making a commitment to finish a degree. I’ve completed 5 of the 30ish courses I’ve started on Coursera since 2013. Maybe that sounds bad but even when I don’t finish an entire course, I still learn a thing or two along the way.
In any case, I’ve never finished a MOOC from edX and I’m ready to change that. I’ve signed up for “Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration 101”. This will be my second time attempting this course but I think making a public announcement through this post might help motivate me to get past the finish line. I’ll be posting my thoughts/notes/assignments on Fridays.
Here are some photos from pixabay.com of the types of things I’ll hopefully be better at drawing in a few weeks:
If you've got any courses you’d like to recommend, let me know in the comments! And if you’re bored and feel creative, you can check out The EmojiPoetry Challenge.
Steem on!
Those are some GORGEOUS photos! I love seeing animals and insects with so much radiant color. Very cool. Hopefully you'll be able to capture them :)

Thanks! They're stock photos but I picked them to keep me motivated. I don't know how much I can learn in the course but if I even come close to capturing those colours and textures I'll be thrilled 😄

I love MOOCS. I'm doing cyber security at edX. It is great. I also love Futurelearn for cyber security and all sorts of courses. Pixabay is great for stock photos too.

Thanks! I'm taking longer than I thought I would to finish the coursework but I haven't given up yet :)
