Do you know that there are millions of kids in rural communities around the world today that still don’t have access to quality education? From Africa to Asia, Europe to Southern/Central America, most kids can’t access quality education. Yet, according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, all girls and boys should complete free, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education by 2030. The beautiful thing is that we don’t have to leave things in the hands of the government alone to get this done. We can all do something. We can take up our civic responsibilities, one person at a time to change the world.

WHAT RESPONSIBILITY DID I TAKE?

Five years ago in 2012, I identified an underserved and rural community in North Central Nigeria without even a primary education facility and I collaborated with the community and fundraised from individuals to build a 3-classroom block so kids can have access to education.

As at 2017, five years after when I visited the school, over 200 pupils have completed a primary education from that school. How I excited I was to know that.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

As an individual, what role are you playing or is willing to play to contribute to meet a need for a child today, whether in the area of access to quality education, food security, health and wellness, etc? With your little effort and contribution, the world can get better. Remember, every child is your child.
