Hi guys and girls!
Time for topic number two on how to prosper without college/university. And this one is really looking good, because in information technology, the demand for professionals is going to get only higher and higher. But where do we start?
- Get started - how does a computer work?
If you are really new to Information Technology, you may consider learning the basics of electronics. After that, you can get one of those books (both of them - even better): "But How Do It Know" by J.Clark Scot; "CompTIA A+ Certification" by Mike Meyers. If you search well, you may even get them for free. Another great learning source is the website cybrary.it
- Hands-on experience.
Start tinkering. If you've got an old PC, look under the hood and try to dismantle it part by part, then assemble it. Be sure you know what is what though. Play with the software of your PC, but again - make sure you know what you are doing. Try finding pro bono work - it's good for the CV and for your own experience.
- Get certified.
Well, for this you have to pay some cash, but it is definitely worth it! The most recognized certifications are from CompTIA, Microsoft and Cisco.
- Get a job in an IT company
Even if it is sales or customer service, once there is a free spot for an IT position, you can be the first to apply.
