Learn Guitar: C Pentatonic Ionian

in education •  7 years ago

Sometimes music is mysterious like hiding your face behind a veil so only the most devout can achieve the true beauty of the engima. Sometimes its like a city on hill. Sometimes metaphors are completely worthless and waste of space just to take up lines on a page or satisfy some arbitrary cultural guidelines.

When we look inside and discover the elements that construct our identity we can reflect for some reason. And for other reasons we might do other acts or things.

Today's lesson covers the Pentatonic scale a very common in rock and blues and other things too. The intervals of the major pentatonic scale are 1, b3, 4, 5, b7, 1. The pentatonic comes from an ancient language meaning 5. It is just a stripped down version of larger modes. We will go through recommended positions in the key of c for different pentatonic modes then continue progressing in other ways.

Modes are cool things to play in! Pentatonic was also sometimes used by Classical composts for that "oriental" flavour.

yep, modes are a good way to expand ones understanding and get a different feeling with all the same notes.
