Managing Fruit Stall Inventory with Matrix Multiplication

in education •  8 years ago

In this video, we develop the process behind the multiplication of 2 matrices. We discover how we start with one matrix of certain dimensions, multiply it by another matrix of different dimensions and produce a new matrix that has yet different dimensions to the first two.

The example we will use to develop the theory is running a fruit stall where we have a matrix P derived from a table that lists the quantities of each fruit in each package. We also have a matrix M, which is derived from a table that lists how many of each package we sold in the months of July, August and September.

We multiply the matrices M x P to get the total quantities of each fruit that were sold in the months of July, August and September.
