This is how I multiply numbers on paper involving nothing more than single digit addition and multiplication. The only issue is when the numbers are large, the grid can get large. If you have no idea how it works, it's called lattice multiplication, so look it up. It's one of the easiest methods. It is easier than long division and gets the job done reasonably quickly. With practise it takes almost no time at all.
