I think land surveying is a must when you buy property, first of all, to make sure that the land you're buying on paper matches the reality. If you buy a land lot for development, you're probably hoping for a specific type of soil, proximity to communications, etc. For example, when I was buying a land lot in Costa Rica through https://www.costarican-american-connection.com/How_to_Buy_Costa_Rica_Property/page_2544515.html, I asked for land surveying before making payment. The realtor company made sure that the beachfront lot was exactly the one described in the listing, and now I'm in the process of building a condo there.
