Should Gardening & Nature Conservation be a subject in School?

When we talk about education for children, it's just not about the book lessons that they learn. Most of the book lessons are never even put to use as they grow up and in their professional or personal lives. Today if I have to look back, there are some subjects that hold no relevance to me like Algebra or Chemistry. I never enjoyed studying these subjects and always scored very poorly in these. How I wish there were some lessons which would have focused on building life skills like gardening.

I strongly believe that Gardening should be one of the main subjects for children in their education curriculum. It is so important to make every child understand the importance of mother nature. These days Coding is becoming one of the important subjects in school. I wonder is every child going to be an IT professional? Then why is it emphasized so much and some children may never get it. It would be such a setback for them. Just like the challenges I faced with Science and Math's subjects. It is good to learn basics of all these subjects but more than that is not really adding any value.

Gardening and Taking care of Nature should be one of the major topics in every school. Where on one side we talk about global warming and taking preventive measures then why not equip the new generation with those skills to work towards it. These days big organizations talk about reducing carbon footprint, sustainability, Go Green initiatives and these are important in real lives, so why not make it a subject which will add value in the education. When I spoke to one teacher about this, she was completely in agreement. She too believed that Children need to be more connected to nature then technology. Eventually technology will take over their minds but if they have knowledge about the nature part also then that will make them conscious being in use of technology.
