What schooling system do you prefer?

As a parent of 2 young children (6yrs and 9yrs) I'm constantly debating (internally) if I should change the school system they are in.

We live in New Zealand but my wife is from France. My French is pathetic to say the least so we have put our kids into a French immersion public school. However, my youngest son in particular is struggling to fit into that system. So much so that the teachers suggested he see a specialist which led to him being diagnosed with ADHD. You can see my post on that here.

I refuse to drug my children and I'm quite anti establishment. I like the principle of home schooling, however, given that both my wife and I work this would require some serious changes at home. I'm thinking next year that perhaps a Montessori school with part time French lessons would be a good compromise.

I would really appreciate feedback from the community here on their experiences on either home schooling, Montessori or any other options out there.

Therefore please let me know your thoughts on:

  1. The standard school system in your area
  2. Home schooling
  3. Montessori education
  4. Other options I might want to consider.

Thanks

Alan

In principle, I do not like home-based education because the boys are significantly losing situations, developing social skills, channeling differences among peers, putting up with pressure, and in regular schools there is usually a certain lack of flexibility in terms of schedules, exams

Yes, this is in part where I get conflicted as I can see the social benefit of spending time with their peers. However, I also take the point made by @steemonkey. This is why I'm leaning towards Montessori. Thank you for your feedback.

We also believe in the Montessori method, that is why we opened a school in Michigan! Keep in touch with us for further information, we just started our blog

Thanks @mchbaycitymu. I'll forward to your updates.

I would recommend ensuring your expenditure allows one parent to home school your children. Downsize, live in a van if necessary. It's better than sending them off to be brainwashed. We would, if we had our time again.

Thanks @steemonkey. I'll take that on board but it's a big call to make. May I ask how old your kids are now and why you would do that if you had the time again?

They're 21 and 24 now. We realized over time how the education system was being dumbed down in order to create obedient workers for their future. It's not about education...rather it is all about indoctrination.

It's hard to argue with that! Certainly plenty to think about. Thanks for sharing your insights.
