Brief explanation of airport understanding

in education •  7 years ago

The airport is a facility where airplanes such as airplanes and helicopters can take off and land. A simplest airport has at least a runway or helipad (for helicopter landing), whereas for large airports are usually equipped with various other facilities, both for service operators and for users such as terminal and hangar buildings.

According to Annex 14 of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization): Airports are defined as areas in land or water (including buildings, installations and equipment) designated in whole or in part for the arrival, departure and movement of planes.

Airport Functions

  • Accelerate the flow of passenger traffic, cargo and service through air transportation in every corner of state.
  • Accelerate economic rides, strengthen national unity in order to establish the insight of the archipelago.
  • Developing integrated transportation with other sectors and paying attention to economic sustainability.

Airport Type

Airports are generally classified in several types according to various criteria tailored to their needs, including:

  • Based on its physical criteria, the airport can be classified into seaplane base, stol port (short take-off and landing distance), and conventional airport.
  • Based on its management and use, the airport may be classified into two, publicly managed airports for general or military use or private / private airports managed / used for private / private company interests.
  • Based on its routine activities, airports can be classified according to the type of aircraft that operates (enplanements) as well as by its operating characteristics.
  • Based on the available facilities, the airport can be categorized according to the number of available runways, available navigation tools, hangar capacity, and so forth.
  • Based on the type of trip served, the airport can be classified international airport, domestic airport and combined domestic international airport.

Naming and airport code

Each airport has different IATA and ICAO codes. Codes can be taken from things like the airport name, the area where the airport is located, or the name of the city served. Code taken from the airport name may be different from its current name because previously the airport has a different name.

Airport Development

In the early days of the flight, the airport was just a grassy field that could land from any direction depending on the direction of the wind. In World War I, airports began to be built permanently as the increasing use of airplanes and runways began to look the way it is now. After the war, the airport began to add commercial facilities to serve passengers.

Now, the airport is not just a place to ride and get off the plane. In its development, along with the opening of aviation as a public transport various facilities were added such as shops, restaurants, fitness centers, and famous brand boutiques let alone at new airports.

That is a brief explanation of the general sense of the airport. Most people only know if the airport is a place to fly and land the plane only. However, in fact the airport today can be said to have had many changes to follow the times because at the airport now almost has all the facilities needed by the public.
