The need for introducing ethics to modern education

in education •  2 years ago

The domain of ethics covers a large spectrum of philosophical thinking.

Establishing ethics within the context of education has always been viewed as an effort to move from purely mechanistic procedures and processes to more human-centered ones.

From Plato and Aristotle to Renaissance philosophers, ethics has played an indispensable part in judging and determining the course of human activity, i.e. what is and should be considered right or wrong.

On the other hand, acting without analyzing and anticipating the consequences doesn’t seem to be consistent with the ultimate goal, which is the benefit of other humans, and nature, in general.

What we notice today is a decline in the development of true, honest, and “humane” relationships among people.

Nature has also suffered the negative consequences of this one-sided perspective, as we can see that our planet is in real danger.

So, is all this materialistic progress worth it? Is it sustainable in the long run?

I think ethics in modern education should serve as a filter of whatever “technological achievement” takes place.

Saving our planet and us humans living on it should be viewed as the ultimate purpose of any kind of progress.

Introducing ethics courses and lessons in every educational system would make a huge positive difference towards that direction.
