How to use a DRONE for the benefit of a whole Community.

Back in April this year a quick strong storm let three communities of the west coast of Ceara, completely isolated. A dam broke its walls and the water made a huge damage on the only highway that connects these locations. No one really understood how a storm that lasted about 30 minutes could have done such a horrendous damage to the highway.

It was then when we decided to fly our Drone…

We captured photos from above, of the water coming down from a private land, where a dam has been illegally built to water the coconut plantation of more than 60 acres! How was this company able to build an illegal dam, the drone could not answer, maybe the local council could…

Then we decided to call the TV channels saying we made a footage of what had just happened. In less than 10 minutes, online news was circulating the facts, but without telling the reasons behind the flood. But, the community started feeling the consequences straight away; no access means no tourist on the beaches, then business.

In less than 24 hours, the TVs arrived to the place and, because of the Drone images were already circulating on social media, the council had to come and explain the situation. The council “promptly” (after 8 days) decided to bring trucks to fix the roads temporarily. It is unfortunate that the temporary fix is still there, after 6 months… and nothing has been done to fix the highway permanently. You know what’s worse? That the private company did not communicate with the community, nor with TVs, and they will not pay any cent for what they did. In fact, they continue operating with the illegal dam inside their property.

Politicians do not care about the people. And private companies can pay politicians to have their own ways to run a business.

The use of the Drone made the whole community understand more of the social issues of their own community. They found the issue, and they discussed the reasons behind. THIS IS HOW WE CAN PREPARE UNDERPRIVILEGED COMMUNITIES TO VOTE CONSCIOUSLY IN TIMES OF ELECTION, instead of selling their votes for goods.
