Introducing.....Biggie!

I previously introduced you to mild mannered Slim, a common Great Egret here in Florida. Now it's time for you to meet another one of these birds, Biggie!

This guy/gal is not as picky when it comes to meat selection and seems to have a bottomless pit for a stomach. Biggie is also at the top of the pecking order when it comes to the egrets in the neighborhood. As a result, Slim will hide strategically from Biggie and has developed something like a squawk to let me know he/she is around. Biggie will follow me all the way to the mailbox and back to make sure that I try to fill that bottomless pit. This bird is more like a vacuum cleaner while eating and not as slow about enjoying a meal like Slim. Like Slim, Biggie will eat meat that I dangle from my fingers in front of me. If I were to leave my door open, Biggie will come up my steps! If I had a potty patch, I might even let that happen. Both Slim and Biggie are very good at using the grass and leave my patio unsoiled.

Biggie is a bit more persistant when it comes to food because this bird will hide and wait until it can hear me. Then out of nowhere, there's Biggie!. Either staring up at my door or staring at me through the kitchen window. If I'm heard talking outside, close my door or even get in my shed.....there's Biggie! This bird's hearing is amazing. People underestimate their intelligence, but they can recognize my voice and no matter what I wear(with or without a baseball hat), they can identify me even if I don't walk the same path.

Hahaha a “vacuum cleaner “, you made me laugh out loud 😂
Here were I live (south west Spain) it’s very common and you can spot bands of them feeding on the grass or rice fields...well they love following tractors 🚜 when they are removing the ground !

One of these days(if I remember), I'll get a video of Biggie eating. Lunchmeat everywhere, beware!

Wow... brazen little bugger.... I hope Slim doesn't lose out too much on the food.... What does your kitty think about the birds?

I have to feed Slim behind the shed out of Biggie's sight. Unfortunately for Slim, being a slow eater means losing out on food at some point. Biggie knows exactly where Slim is at all times and knows when I have given food. To slow Biggie from going after Slim right away, I need to slowly feed Biggie small pieces until I run out. That's when Slim is literally about to lose his/her lunch, lol.

Petunia doesn't care about the birds and hardly ever looks out a window.
