A trip around Sæland mountain through Urådalen up to Bjødnaliå and back around

Today Charlie and I will take Steemit on a hike around the Sæland mountain, a 7km (4,5mile) hike. Starting at the parking lot in Sæland forest, going up Urådalen to Bjødnaliå and around the mountain until we get back to Sæland forest.

This area was formed during the last ice age. It is one of three valleys running NE-SW.

Unique to this area is the oak forest in Urådalen. The oak trees look scraggy and crooked since the grow on slopes littered by rocks, a so called "ur", hence the name "Urådalen". The area exhibits a huge variety of cultural landscapes and natural habitats found in Time. From the cultivated fields and meadows near the lakes and streams to forests, seminatural grassland heather and mires.

People have lived in this area since the bronze age thus shaping the landscape. Grazing cattle and sheep, along with modern farming still maintain the qualities of this unique landscape. Birds are numerous both in the forest and on Taksdalsvatnet. More than 50 different species of birds have been registered in the area. In the fall atlantic salmon ascend the Hå-river to reach the brooks of Urådalen to spawn.
