South Korea is supposed to be one of the most developed, technologically-advanced countries in the world. But, did you know that South Korea has the highest elderly poverty rate among OECD countries? According to a 2016 OECD economic survey, almost half of the elderly population over the age of 65 in South Korea is living in poverty. The problem is this is the side of Korea that you almost never hear about from the local media. And at first, we didn't believe it ourselves until we saw it with our own eyes. For months, our team has been trying to interview senior citizens to highlight this social issue. But we quickly came to realize, that pretty much no one wanted to talk to us in front of the camera for fear of losing face and potential repercussions from the family and community. But after months of making calls and visiting places ourselves, we finally managed to get in touch with this old lady who agreed to talk to us about her situation.
