Vote for me!

Tomorrow Finns are gonna go vote for people who desperately want to be in the parliament. Or some go and vote. Those who have not voted in advance. And those who want to vote. Those who don't, don't.

Finland doesn't have a two-party system but a multi-party system. There's left, right, gray middle ground. A little bit of red, lots of blue and a hint of green. Some ancient dudes, stiffs with the same thoughts they always have had, smooth criminals, puppets of the lobbyist, denials of all, I'm-gonna-change-everything -people and then there are those idealistic young people whose suggestions and visions are shot down during the first six moths. If they even make it to anywhere. Then there's those who speak Swedish and then there's the final solution. Or was it the final movement. Or movement this instant. Dunno. It's called something.

If I would establish a party, I would definitely be as friendly in all interviews as a certain Finnish former athlete, a javelin thrower, Seppo Räty was. Unfortunately his wikiquotes are only in Finnish, but I'll try my best to translate few, the best of the best for you, so you get a general idea of Seppo's thoughts and mind. How lovable he really is.

"Leisure is spent playing card and drinking beer."
(Resting in Barcelona 1992)

"Opera? Yuck the fuck!"
(In an interview with IS in 1991)

"I guess it's somewhere."
(Räty won silver in Barcelona in 1992. He had to borrow silver medal from archery team for a photo shoot).

"Germany is a shit country."
(after falling from the World Cup in Stuttgart in 1993)

"Well, that would have been, but it's so bad, so fuck, wouldn't want to take it."
(After dropping from the World Championship in Stuttgart in 1993. At the same championship, a car, Mercedes Benz was also as a reward for the World Champion).

"I've eaten so much good food that my weight has risen five kilograms."
(After the world record result throw at the Punkalaidun, a journalist asked what Räty had done in the summer to achieve the current result.)

"I can get better from Iisalmi." A small town in Finland that is not particularly famous for anything mentioning for.
(criticizes the aroma of Italian sparkling wine after European Championship silver)

"No, assault rifles."
(Reply at the airport to interviewer's question before the Atlanta Summer Olympics 1996: "Is your bag now full of good race mood?")

"When I left to Atlanta, I decided that I wouldn't talk for the whole trip a word of English - I must get by with Finnish."
(Atlanta Olympic Tour 1996)

"Well, for fucks sake, I'm not gonna go if I don't have to."
(Räty's response to the interviewer's request for a victory lap in Atlanta, 1996)

"Nothing. Because that poor thing doesn't speak Finnish."
(Räty's answer when the reporter asked him what they talked with Zelezny on the field)

"First I will go and eat."
(Räty commented when he was asked about his future plans after winning his gold medal in Rome in 1987)

"We have a habit in our family of not complaining about our own things. I'd rather take a chainsaw and go to saw some logs for so long that things get easier."
(Räty commented on several of his injuries in the early 90s)

"Drinking excessive fluids only means that your shit flies farther than the javelin."
(Räty's advice for all athletes)

"Have to go and have a beer. This kind of javelin throw pisses me off."
(Räty's commentary on the 2005 World Championship javelin throw after the third round)

"I have other things to do, I will watch rally broadcasts"
(Räty's murmur response to the reporter whether Räty will follow the Goteborg European Championships javelin)

"Throw now so I can go and have a beer"
(Räty's cheer for his trainee in Kaleva game 2007)

"Well I could go there to warm up."
(The reporter asked after the 1996 Kaleva games whether Seppo is happy to go to the Olympic Games)

"I do not follow team games, I follow only sports."
(Seppo Räty talking about American football)

So that's Räty. I was very young when he already was old. I never have followed that much any kind of sports. Team or not. So almost everything that I know about Räty is something that someone else told me, or what I've googled. But he is a legend. In his achievements in sports and in the way what he chooses to say.

Perhaps these kind of expressions and sentences just aren't for me. They have too many different words. That's always difficult. So another option would be to repeat one and the same thing because the fact is that the thing you repeat the most, gradually becomes true. My party could be called Soylent Green.

Imaginary interview-debate-whatarethosecalled:

– What's your opinion on the care of senior citizens?
– Well, our party is called Soylent Green.
– I see. How about energy politics? Turf, coal, wind, solar or nuclear power?
– Well you see, our party is called Soylent Green.
– Okay, okay. You must also have your own unwavering opinion on immigration?
– Again, our party really is called Soylent Green.
– So what would be a good option when thinking about the maintenance of the roads? How about combustion engines? Do you have any suggestions to replace gasoline?
– Yes well, our party truly is called Soylent Green.
– Do I dare to ask your solution to climate change?
– Soylent Green. Vote for Soylent Green! Easy answers to hard problems!

P.S.
Soylent Green is soon true. In the year 2022. it's not far. We have achieved everything else. Overpopulation, global warming, environmental catastrophes. Only Soylent Green missing from this equation. Unless someone somewhere up there where things are decided, has left something untold. By the way, what are you going to stuff into your mouth today?
