In defense of EVs during winter.

I know all the horror stories about one supercharging complex in Chicago failing, but to set the record straight...

If you have a Tesla, you probably have a garage. You don't use superchargers outside of road trips. Does your battery have to heat up to receive charge? Sure, but that literally happens while you sleep. Your 250 miles of summer range might be about 200 in subzero temperatures, which is more than the vast majority of American's daily drives anyway. If it's winter, you're probably better off for conditions having an EV in your garage than a gas car. If you're stuck on the highway, a fully charged EV is gonna take a lot longer to run out of charge running the heater than an average car is gonna take to run out of gas using their heater.

Yes, batteries and cold don't mix well and there are negatives. But the reports of EV's peak and inevitable demise at the hands of Midwest weather have been greatly exaggerated to the point of silliness.
