in electron-steem •  7 years ago  (edited)

as part of my motivation to start learning how to use electron i’ve been digging around their website to see what is possible with the platform and i’ve found some great stuff. i’ve got seven of these planned and i’m hoping you will check out the quickfire soapbox made wistia videos i made, i’ve embedded episode two below. ..

what is electron and what is electron on steemit?

it’s a cool platform that allows someone (hopefully) non coder like me to hack together something (and get some help) to build our some applications that have been floating around my brain for far too long and need to come to life. i’m also sharing my journeys with the platform alongside these quick fire shows highlighting some tools that have been built with the platform. mainly to inspire me to keep going when things look really complicated but also so you can discover some neat tools! :)

looking to barter skills for coding help/time!

As I've said elsewhere, I'm not a coder but I'm looking to still attempt to build out some apps, I've got a fairly clear vision and support to built out the visual components and I've got a clear plan in terms of that i want to make it modular, talk to a variety of api's (which make maintaining it a bit of a pain) support different niches and theming. I'd like to concentrate my time designing the 'looks' and the app will have it's own integrated store for add on modules and theme packs. If your a coder and know node.js or electron in general I'd love to work together with you on the idea, I'll have some mockups of the look I'm going after soon. I think it could be really something

dipping my toes in

Hoping to start in the next few weeks on a udemy course or similar to learn the basics of electron and try and wrap my head around GitHub for the first time in terms of how that actually works, i have a rough idea but I'm really interested to learn it properly so that i can roll out updates in a clear manner and i can build up the community in a centralised place.

It seems the best place to do it, I'm hoping that by making it open source that people can add to it and make it better or fork it and make a better version. I'm more interested in this application from the content creator perspective anyway - i would actually use this as my trans media portal. Trying to simplify the consumption of the often spread of content over several platforms.

this episode is a fire episode i know for fact that some of these applications will make finding graphics for your posts a lot easier especially if you’re a mac user you have some absolute belters in here that you must check out today, remember these little ‘built with electron’ are to inspire me to jump and get setup with electron.

the first thing we are going to mockup is a design look and break down the relevant areas we are considering - i think an initial sketch of the app is needed, i’ll get my notebook out over the weekend and draft out some initial looks and start to break apart the components, i can really see that this might have to be open source from the beginning and see if people can join in and help to realise it.

Keep em peeled, more to come!
