[Electroneum] Weekly News Roundup (02/03/18)

It's been an exciting week for the Electroneum team as they've been strutting their stuff down at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, organised by the GSMA. This weeks News Roundup is coming at the end of the week as I wanted to include any exciting updates from the MWC, and it's also given me time to tweak the template for the post and think about further weekly feature articles I'm hoping to start posting.

As for trading, the price of Bitcoin has risen above the critical $11,000 level which is a good sign for the market as a whole, but ETN is sitting at around $0.07, down from earlier in the week. We'll have a look at this later in the post. For now, let's go over all the latest news and updates for Electroneum, and feel free to peruse the contents.

Electroneum at the Mobile World Conference Barcelona 2018

The Mobile World Conference held in Barcelona this year and organised by the GSMA, is the world's largest gathering for the mobile industry, and the team were very honoured to have been included in this years event. It's been a busy few days for all involved, having setup stalls, held multiple interviews and unveiled their Mobile Miner to the world. They've been in talks with multiple network operators, and are confident that they'll be able to boost their user base to over 200m with these new deals.

The team are no doubt unwinding after a hectic week, so no doubt there'll be a full update from them regarding the MWC over the weekend or next week. Being able to attend the MWC is exactly the kind of publicity boost the project needs if they're going to achieve their ultimate goal of mass adoption of their cryptocurrency. Electroneum is the first cryptocurrency project to have been invited to attend this prestigious event, positioning them to be the first truly mobile cryptocoin.

Mobile Miner Launch Date

During the MWC in Barcelona, the team announced that the mobile miner will be going live for Android devices on Monday 5th March 2018, only a few days away. Unfortunately for iPhone users, you'll have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on the mobile miner, but expect a further announcement regarding iOS very soon. For beta testers, if you haven't heard already, you'll have the ETN you've earnt while testing paid out to your wallet on launch. The team's goal is to enable everyone who uses the app to earn a few dollars worth of coins each month, helping to subsidise the cost of a mobile device and/or line contract.

I've been using the mobile miner myself now for a few weeks, and overall I'm very impressed by it. As you probably already now, this is not an actual miner but a simulated experience, designed to familiarise new users with the cryptocurrency, and rewarding them with a small amount of the coin as well. It benchmarks your device, and pays out a small but regular amount depending on the speed of your device. Other users and myself have noticed that the benchmark score does appear to be below what the device can actually achieve, and there's no news on whether this will change when the miner goes live next week. The amount earned has also decreased as the weeks have gone on, and again, no news on whether this will change with the final launch.

New Talking Heads Video

Earlier in the week, the team released a new Talking Heads video with Richard Ells. In this one, Richard discusses mobile mining with Financial Journalist Graham Jarvis. It's a very interesting watch, you can check it out above.

The team have been producing and releasing these Talking Heads videos on a weekly basis, releasing a healthy dose of news and publicity to the community. If you haven't seen them already, I strongly recommend you go back through and view them.

Interview with Richard Ells

This is just one of many interviews that Richard conducted while in Barcelona with NordicHardware. In it, Richard discusses the mobile app which is the cornerstone of the whole project, as well as what he sees the future is for cryptocurrencies.

Expect more interviews to be released in the coming weeks.

Price Discussion

There was a lot of excitement around ETN earlier in the week as the price saw a steady increase, although that has not been sustained. The small increase was most likely down to trading on new exchanges, so these peaks and troughs are to be expected. The cryptocurrency market as a whole is making steady recovery, but ETN seems to be struggling a bit to break out of it's current trends.

I strongly urge everyone to not get carried away with this, as I'm becoming increasingly concerned with the bubbling excitement around big crypto projects. This kind of atmosphere is to be expected before an economic bubble collapses. There's no doubt in my mind that the wild west days of Bitcoin are almost over, with much needed regulation around the corner and an alarming number of new ICOs being launched all the time. This is exactly like the dotcom bubble of the 2000s. It's important to note that backing the right project could definitely lead to a nice Return on Investment, but many are throwing money at whatever projects they can find. Many are also turning out to be little more than scams. "Investing" in cryptocurrencies is little more than gambling, so never put in more than you can afford to lose. That being said, there's nothing stopping you from taking advantage of the current low price of ETN and buying a small amount. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Exchanges

Not much in terms of updates regarding Exchanges, although ETN is now trading on Qryptos and TradeOgre, although only small volumes of the coin. The price on Qryptos does appear to be slightly higher than it is on Cryptopia, but that is mostly likely down to the small trading volumes.

Cryptopia wallet transfers are reported to be working again, although I am yet to personally test this. I have a few ETN sitting in Cryptopia still which I should really move out to my own wallet, so I'll do that over the weekend and report back with my results. Have any of your been trading on Qryptos or TradeOgre? Let me know what your experiences have been in the comments down below.

That's your fill of the latest Electroneum news, what do you think about the new announcements? Let me know in the comments below, I really like to hear your views on these things. I'm especially interested in your views on where the price of ETN is heading, so share your perspective on the matter here. Hopefully we'll get a good conversation started around it! Until next time, make sure to follow me for the latest in Cryptocurrency and general cool things. Peace!

Hey there @johngreenfield - I am a HUGE fan of ETN and I enjoy keeping up to date with their latest news.

I'm excited that the mobile app is going live on Monday, as things are definetely headed in the right direction with this project.

Richard Ellis is a down to earth guy, along with CEO of Titanium, Michael Stollaire.

Huge moves are coming this year with ETN. Thank you for keeping the world updated with current events :) Cheers.

Hey buddy, thank you so much! I'm with you, things are definitely heading in the right direction. Richard and the team have proven themselves to be trustworthy and they clearly know what they're doing in terms of driving Electroneum forward. Hears to an exciting 2018 for ETN!

I have had a bad experience with Cryptopia in the past so never hold coins there. I'm sorry to hear there is some issue. I haven't tried the other exchanges. I heard Trade Ogre was a scam (just rumor). I really am waiting for HitBtc which is supposedly supposed to happen? Anyhow I'm thrilled about the Electroneum news they keep it coming and they're doing their job. Just very pleased with their efforts.

I've read about quite a few people who've had issues with Cryptopia, but I have to say I haven't had a problem so far. I traded a few thousand ETN way back on the day it launched on Cryptopia for a nice profit, although most of that is still sat in Cryptopia, as it seems to be when people try to transfer coins out that they get issues.
They're doing a really good job, regular communication, true to their original stated goals. Hopefully the price will reflect all this soon!

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out!

Will the android app go smoothly?
What does the Dentons patent contain?
Is the patent global or country/region?
Will the iOS app get approved soon?
Any partnerships announced in general?
Any updates on how they plan to integrate ETN with phone providers?
I can't wait to see the answers to all these :D

Thanks for the summary of the week!

Those are all very good questions, and sadly I don't have the answers to most of them yet! I'm expecting a big run down of the new partnerships over this week. There was no confirmation of exactly what deals they've managed to get and with whom, but deals were made apparently.
I can say the mobile miner works really well, my only criticism is that the benchmarking seems to be a bit off, but other than that, it does what it says on the tin.
Thanks for stopping by! Peace!

This is pro level stuff. I mean, I can't really say if the content is correct, as I have barely any clue what you are even talking about, but the way you present it is off the chain. Good work!

Thank you so much bud, that means a lot! I'm trying to improve with each post, still feel like I've got a load more to do before I'm happy with it.

All we can ever do is try to be better next time ;)

Great article, it's exciting to see where this is going to go!
