{mix} The Art Of Getting Things Wrong

in electronicmusic •  7 years ago

I was messaging my brother last night when he said he was listening to an old mix of mine. He screenshotted it, I saw the little sad panda and realised that I'd completely forgotten about this session. Since it is rainy as ever in Manchester, I feel it is an appropriate archive mix to share with you.

Thematically, the mix is melancholic and touches on various sonic points through house music. The opening is slow, almost triumphantly sombre, before leading in to some eighties vibes - sometimes loose and fuzzy, sometimes laser focused, sometimes knowingly nostalgic. Towards the end of the mix the gears are shifted through into electro and techno with resolute determination. These closing segments give an impression of overcoming an obstacle, of sun breaking through the clouds.

As per usual, this comes with my stamp of approval that you're getting countless hours of work in sequencing and tune selecting. Enjoy the blends.

Funny to listen to old mixes you have made. Always amuses me.

Smile at the good mixes and "twist and turn" by the bad ones :-)

Ah man, I've pretty much drawn a line under my older ones. There came a point where I stopped trying to dump out an 80 minute mix in two days. Took a real pleasure in getting picky over the course of weeks. This was one such mix.

Love the water-bell introduction. Think I shall rock this today as I clean up the mess I made of my various ethereum wallets haha.

Haha, it's quite a slow burner for a rock out. I seem to like my mixes having a chuggy edge. In fact, I remember reading about Craig Richards and how he'd slow down a live mixed session when putting it out on CD.

Great cover with panda😋👌
