Clone's house affiliate Royal Oak has been delivering a consistent stream of releases since its inception in 2009. Possibly one of its finest releases to date is - what the great William Shakespeare once termed as - "some bumpin' analogue shit" from Amsterdam based outfit Antenna. The 'New Life' release was four tracks of quality, each made with no pretension by slathering over egged aesthetic saturation - which was a bit of an intrusive theme in 2015 - as the pairing of Antenna project coordinator Sasha Renkas and guesting vocalist Eline Makker kept the production fresh throughout.
It is as you listen through from start to finish that everything finally clicks into place. Just over the halfway mark, the finest moment in the form of 'Harpy Dance' unfolds. Its breathy acid optimism and earnest purity is one of those dance floor sorbet moments, when the liquid nitrogen clears away and you are left in blissful lucidity. It sits in juxtaposition to the prior track, 'Atomic', which struts with pursed lips. Here, an arcing bass line acting as a terrestrial tether to the cosmic canopy pinprick melodies that decorate its upper reaches. It twinkles, but there is a sense of a serious demeanour at work.
Book-ending this pair is 'Lake Of X' and 'New Life', where both Sasha and Eline showcase their vocal capabilities. This isn't full on gospel or derivative house fare - their delivery is low key, half whispered, offering shoegaze introversion and twisting the strains of Chicago into the realm of early 80's synth pop.
For Antenna, this release cemented early promise demonstrated on their releases over on the Pinkman imprint, and set a manifesto of house music that could swing between - or even unite - themes of being wistful and hedonistic at will.

Haha, I was going to say that it is a bit bouncy for a sleeping tune, but then I note you are dancing in dreamland.
(whereas I had nightmares last night about missing my morning train because I couldn't type an email address properly)
