{tech} Arturia Announce The MiniBrute 2 Synthesizer - UPDATE: info slip on Rackbrute Eurorack case

in electronicmusic •  7 years ago  (edited)

UPDATE:

So it seems Sweetwater (US based hardware store) accidentally put too much info on their store listing. The next Arturia reveal will be a special Eurorack case.

"Designed for RackBrute

With 48 CV patch points, the Minibrute 2 is the perfect complement to a Eurorack modular synth rig. And the perfect way to join those two worlds is with Arturia's RackBrute Eurorack Case. Minibrute 2 and RackBrute join together and offer different positioning options, putting your Eurorack modules right where you need them."

ORIGINAL POST:

Hardware synths weren't always the in vogue item that they are today. Prior to the influx of machines from Korg, Roland and Elektron, Arturia was a bit of a lone name in flying the flag.

Their small form factor MiniBrute (and later the MicroBrute) were highly regarded for their ragged analogue sound, affordable price and small form factor. Slightly overlooked nowadays, they can be picked up for incredibly decent prices new and second hand.

This is no doubt to be furthered with the successor being announced today - the MiniBrute 2.

It takes the original foundation of its predecessor and gives it a massive shot in the arm. Sequencing capabilities are ramped up, the modular-lite functions have been replaced with a fully Eurorack compliant factor semi-modular setup, plus some particularly sexy oscillators, waveform mixing and filter aspects to its sound generation.

The mooted cost is £575 and a March landing date, which means it isn't quite as entry point priced as the original machine but it does sit in the same sort of bracket as the incredibly accomplished mid-range offerings that Dreadbox have been operating in recently.

The glossy video is there for all to see right now, with more details to surface on this unit tomorrow.

The first shots have been fired - Arturia is getting a jump on the NAMM 2018 technology push at the end of the month.

thanks for posting this! I was positively surprised to learn about the announcement earlier today. I owned a Microbrute, and it seems the Minibrute 2 offers quite a few features I always felt the Microbrute and the first Minibrute were lacking.

There is a 30 min in-depth demo/review on the Minibrute 2 by BoBeats, one of the rising influencers in the Youtube synth scene, for those who are interested:

The Rackbrute sounds interesting! I’m nowhere near going to have enough money to go near utilising something like this though. I like to hear about it though.

Seriously hoping that something will appear that will make me not regret sleeping on the JU-06...
