My first ever PC build

Well I took on quite a new challenge, and decided that I wanted to build a custom gaming PC with the help of my brother. I have also loved playing video games but have always been a console man; however recently I have been really interested in getting to gaming on a computer. I think this is mostly due to my younger brother and seeing how much fun he has playing on his gaming PC, and how fun it looked when he built his.

So my younger brother came in to town to visit from Texas and he is very knowledgeable in the world of computers which is good for me because I am pretty much dumb when it comes to the inner workings of a PC so there was just no way that I trusted myself to try and build this beast of a machine by myself. So we got up on Tuesday and headed out to try and get all the necessary pieces to assemble a super computer, we made about an hour and half drive north bound to go to the best electronics store I have ever been to that we knew would have everything we would need.

Now let me just say I had set a predetermined budget for this computer but I as shortly found out after being in the store for about fifteen minutes its hard to stay on budget and still get quality supplies for a good computer build. We started by picking out a case, and I must say the assortments of cases that you can chose from was crazy but we wound up going with a Corsair carbide series clear 400c compact mid series tower case. Now I didnt really know any of the companies that make computer parts but as I found out quickly Corsair makes pretty much all top of the line products.

After picking the case we moved on to the cooling element, and at the advise of my brother we went with water cooling for my PC. The Corsair Hydro Series H100i V2 Extreme Liquid Cooler was our final choice, because this bad boy provides some serious heat dissipation for cpu's. From here I pretty much just stepped back and let my brother take the lead and pick out the rest of our supplies and we wound up getting an Intel i5 8600k processor, ROG STRIX Z370f motherboard, a Corsair tx650m power supply, Corsair 16gb vengance ram, and 1tb WD hard drive.

Once we got home things went much smoother then I had expected. We started by installing the power supply, and once that was done we put the processor on the motherboard and then installed the mother board in the tower.

We then moved on the installing the water cooler, and when I say we took the water cooler on and off probably 10 times that is no exaggeration. We found out after installing the water cooler that the RAM would not fit on to the mother board with the water cooler being installed first. Once we got the RAM and the water cooler all squared away we installed the graphic card which is an MSI R9 380 4gb, that my brother gave me to since he had recently upgraded his. We finished it up by putting the hard drive in, and the most tedious and time consuming part of the build which was hooking everything up to the mother board. Most of that process went well until we realized that the CPU cable we needed to plug in was under the water cooler, so we again took the water cooler out plugged in the CPU and reinstalled the water cooler.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well we thought we were done we got everything plugged in secured the case back up and plugged the power supply in to the wall, and man the anticipation was killing we flipped the power switch and I hit the power button....... then nothing happened. I have never felt more defeated and depressed, but just as I was about to give up my brother saved the day and found that the power button cable connection was not fully seated in to the mother board. So he fixed the connection, hit the power button and BAM the beast was alive. From there it was gravy we hooked the monitor up, plugged in the keyboard and the mouse and began installing software. All in all this was an extremely fun process and I have a awesome gaming PC now all thanks to my little brother, even though hes not so little anymore hard to believe he is already 16!!
