iPhone X
The iPhone X arrives on the market with its all-glass design and its starting price of 1 000 €. Repair costs are so high that one wonders if this smartphone is worth the investment. SquareTrade, the rated protection plan approved by millions of satisfied customers, once again demonstrates the design limitations of modern smartphones with devastating results for the iPhone X. SquareTrade demonstrates that the iPhone x with its new glass front and back and no home button, drives an iPhone more fragile than ever.
The iPhone X in front of SquareTrade Labs
SquareTrade Labs uses a range of scientific robots to drop, fold, tilt or submerge devices and see how they resist our everyday life. To view the shocking results of the SquareTrade test:
Face down: the first time you let go, the iPhone x's screen no longer responds, and its widely touted facial recognition function no longer works.
Side and back drop: The side drop caused remarkable internal damage, while the outside of the phone only suffered cosmetic damage. The screen has been rendered inoperative. The fall on the back completely broke the rear panel, causing glass chips to appear, making it difficult to hold the phone.
Immersion: The iPhone X does not outperform the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, plunged for 30 minutes to 1.5 m water depth with a drop in audio quality during playback.
Blow test: The blow test was carried out to simulate the fall of a car roof, the blow test showed that the iPhone X is likely to be damaged when falling. While the screen and back have been cracked, the biggest damage is to facial recognition and the new home touch control system, which are damaged.
Shaking test: The iPhone X didn't like its 60 seconds in the shaking robot. While the display shows signs of shock, the home touch control is no longer working.
Repairability: SquareTrade technicians reveal that the iPhone X has a finer and more expensive OLED screen to replace, a smaller logic card, multiple wires and a multi-part battery that is more difficult to extract. This probably explains why Apple is asking for the exorbitant sum of 321 € to replace the front screen and 600 € for most repairs.
