Seascape. Drawing with oil paints on a stone

in elegance •  6 years ago

Hello, everyone!

Recently I had a trip to the sea, which marked a farewell to the outgoing summer. The sea was surprisingly warm and affectionate. Saying goodbye to the sea, I took with me several smooth beautiful pebbles from the beach for the subsequent drawing. I saw a lot of similar works on the Internet and I wanted to try too.
On the first pebble, I wanted to draw directly the sea, since this is my favorite subject in drawing.

For me this is a qualitatively new experience. I did not cover the pebble with a primer, regretting it already in the middle of the creative process, but there was nowhere to retreat. Next time I will take into account my mistake. The fact that the oil, to my surprise, absorbed into the stone like in paper, so for the brightness requires the application of several layers with an intermediate drying. I did not have time for this, so I decided to cope quickly in one short session. I drew contours with a pencil.

I wanted to depict the sunset, so I made gradient transitions of the sky of yellow, red and pale ultramarine colors.

Mixed emerald and blue cobalt, drew with this color the sea.

With white paint drew the sails, with brown, black color and umbra painted a wooden base of the ship.

With a fine brush I drew masts and ropes on the boat.

I drew a white foam with a bristled brush, showing foamy spray, with «English red» paint drew the shadows and reflexes from the sun.

At the final stage, I emphasized the details in the figure, strengthened the shadows and contrast. On the sails I added light yellow reflections of the setting sun, in the sky I painted light clouds and seagulls. In the spray of foam I added volume and shade with light-violet shades, and light reflexes with light yellow and pink colors. The bases of the waves and foam I emphasized with the dark blue color.
My drawing is ready.

I am not satisfied with my result by 100%, but I deduced the main conclusions for subsequent similar drawings on stones.
