Bornholm part XII - Hammershus

From Jonskapel, it is a short but rewarding ride through lush forests and farming fields to Hammershus.

Hammershus is Scandinavia's largest medieval fortification, situated on a rock towering 74 metres (243 ft) above sea level. It is now a ruin. Erected in the 13th century, it served as a royal residence for Valdemar II of Denmark and was a base for the Danish crusades (och yeah, no escaping christianity on the island.)

Hammershus being a ruin, don't expect too much outside bricks and rocks. However it is nice to face the crowds and wander the premises. Up on top of the rock there are some nice views of the clips along the coast, especially if the weather is clear.
