On 13 April Thursday, Elon Musk defended his offer to purchase Twitter on a on-stage interview at the TED conference. Musk said the proposed deal is not about the economics. He just wanted to ensure Twitter remains a trusted platform for democracy. Musk wrote in a letter saying "I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy”.
