Comenzando el mes de Elul se acostumbra escribir en el encabezado de toda carta que envía a familiares y amigos "Leshaná tová tikatevu vetejatemu/ Para un año bueno sean inscritos y confirmados" así expresamos nuestros buenos deseos a todas nuestras nuestras relaciones.
Es costumbre de gente muy devota y de personas activas en los preceptos el hacer revisar los tefilin (filacterias) y mezuzot (rollos de cuero que tiene el "Shema Israel" y que se pone en el marco de la puerta) cada año durante el mes de Elul, aunque de acuerdo a la ley no es obligatorio hacerlo. Tefilin que fueron escritos por un sofer (escriba) experto no es necesario revisarlos después de varios años. Mezuzot se revisan cada tres años y medio.
Está permitido realizar bodas durante todo el mes de Elul y no existe ninguna duda al respecto, ni de acuerdo a la ley, ni conforme a la tradición.
