You know what I noticed?

'What?'

A lot of artists of the past & present were weird.

Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear.

Eminem practically did every drug in the book.

Edgar Allan Poe.... well, don't even get me started on him.

Despite being very weird, they produced masterpieces that will outlast the both of us.

Although their personalities were out of whack, it didn't deter them from producing.

Heck, in many ways their weird personalities may have been the missing puzzle piece to their greatness.

It was yesterday where my friend Abdul & I were talking about creativity.

In our discussion, we asked each other whether or not creativity played a role in building a legacy.

And both of us agreed, that yes, it did.

You see, although logic is great & needed in your lifestyle to maintain structure, it is not the best tool for innovation.

Innovation requires creativity.

'How do you define creativity?'

I define creativity as being weird with structure.

Therefore, all of those artists may have been onto something.

Have you ever wondered why it is during your dark times in which create the best?

It's because of one major element....

Emotional pain produces a genius.

'Huh??'

If you look up the term genius, it is someone who has supreme intellectual OR creative abilities.

With intellectual aspect, it is easy to measure. Check out someone's IQ score & deduce whether or not they fall into the genius scale.

With the creative part, it is very difficult to measure.

Only you can measure it.

The reason that emotional pain is good for creativity is due to thought frequencies.

When you feel emotional pain, your body is generating internal energy.

With the energy, you can go into destruction or production mode.

1. Destruction Mode

doing drugs, getting drunk, partying away the pain.
In the destruction phase, the human uses external stimulants to numb the internal energy.

2. Production Mode

making art, writing stories, creating videos etc.
In the production phase, the human uses internal energy to produce external masterpieces.

One is emotionally unintelligent, one is emotionally intelligent.

I'll let you guess which is which.

In the production phase, as you harness the energy within rather than numb it, something magical happens.

Your brain starts thinking in new thought patterns.

Rather than the traditional logical thoughts, you start thinking in different wavelengths.

The frequency is much higher.

And the higher the frequency, the higher the innovation.

Emotional intelligence comes down to understanding that:

Emotions = Feelings + Perception

Get to a point where you can dictate the perception at will.

Then leverage the feelings to think innovatively.

Once innovation has been sparked, then release it on the creative outlet of your choice.

You were a genius all along.

It just requires leveraging emotional intelligence to unleash it.

If you are going through a good portion in life, then enjoy it.

If you are going through a dark portion in life, then leverage it.

Get to a point where you see win - win.

'Does that mean I can never be sad?'

Nah, be sad when you are sad.

Just don't let it destruct your behavior.

Use your internal energy to produce.
