And so it Begins. Building an Empire

How to get things done? I plan to build empire ! but how to put that first few first bricks in place?

ANSWER: I don’t have an empire and I’ve had my ups and downs. But I can answer this question:

I moved to Brighton UK with £0 in my pocket. I worked at a local programming company. I was a “advanced programmer” but on my voicemail I put “This is CEO of Grand Programming”. All that called would think i was a CEO of a programming company and slowly my persona grew.

I then told everyone I worked at this made up company. If anyone asked what I did there I just said, “to help them come up with new ideas and trouble shoot.” Because I truly believed that’s what I did.

And then I had an idea: why not try to push this even further and make some good contacts. So I did.

I once read a great articale about making your own luck.... you must be init to win it.

And then other companies, even competitors of the company i worked for, wanted to know the ins and out of that i was doing for my company. So I started letting them know what i was already doing for the company i was working for. For some reason because they now thought i was a SEO of my own company they wanted to talk to me more and get my advice on things. Until I was head hunted by a competitor(I was still only doing my original job) . An all out battle started between to local company and their competitor on who would keep me.

So with out doing any thing extra i have found my Salary go up 40% in 1 year......

And so on.

Another way to say all this is the 12-step slogan: “Fake it til you make it”. This doesn’t mean “Lie until you make it”. It means: get the knowledge and then already visualize that you’ve succeeded and act accordingly. Do it! Fake it til you make it!

Building an empire is just like making your own luck!!!!!!

Good post and great attitude! I think you'd like Tom Peters. He's a business guru based in the US. I remember reading his blog years ago - he's very inspirational. He wrote "In Search of Excellence" amongst others - fab guy
