GG, 2018.

in employment •  7 years ago

Welp, as well as it started, it looks like my 2018 is off to a rather shitty start.

Yesterday, I lost my job. After only two months, and for the shittiest reason.

At 11am, I was called into an office with my team leader and the centre manager, and informed that they had evidence of 'call avoidance.' They showed me examples of where a customer had called in (it was primarily an outbound call centre, so inbounds were rare), and after greeting with the usual opening greeting, I was met with silence. After a short period of no response, I ended the call.

This was pretty common, given it was debt collection. We'd call someone, they'd cal back to see who it was and - knowing it was likely a debt collector - they'd hear the greeting and say nothing.

It was also mentioned that I failed to leave notes on the account, but it was never advised we had to hunt down the number and search for it to leave notes. In fact, it was advised we 'could if we wanted to.' As for the termination of calls, I felt it was being efficient to end a call and move on if no one answered.

In lieu of taking on board the feedback and doing better, I was called into a second meeting an hour later and informed that a decision had been made to end my employment, as I was considered 'too much of a risk.'

They could have given me a warning, they could have made it clear what I was supposed to do - instead, they fired me.

It's bad enough to put through the process of losing another job, and having it dome so quickly and and thoroughly and without access to a support person or any rebuttal. It's especially galling to know that of the three of us in that training group, I was the only one to come close to meeting target, and that one of my colleagues could (literally) look at pornography at his desk and somehow it was okay.

My guess, at the end, was that they were in need of cutting costs and I drew the short straw, because neither of the other two had anything they could be pinged on.

Well, all I can do is cross my fingers and hope something else comes along soon.

Back into the fray.

Im so sorry 😕. Hopefully things turn around for you soon. Keep your chin up!

Sorry, man. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Time to hit some crypto day trading mate, make the money to not need a job. :)

Sorry mate, I'm sure something will come along.

In the meantime, you have the ability to focus on Steemit a lot more and build your crypto portfolio.

Chin up mate, will let you know if I hear of anything going around the place. I have a few mates with small businesses that sometimes hire additional staff after the Christmas period is done and dusted.

At will employment laws are so fucking ridiculous. Assuming you're in the US?

I hope you find a better job soon!
