Recently the Copa America took place in Brazil, a soccer sporting event in which the country known as the one with the best carnivals in the world served as host. But, as we know, we are in the middle of a pandemic process, and this led to large demonstrations from the society, on the one hand they criticized the fact that the numbers of contagions of Covid were very high, and on the other hand, there is a problem of poverty and neglect of some neighborhoods, which contrasts with the high costs involved in holding this sporting event.
However, it should be noted that the stadiums were practically empty, there was no public, which led me to think about the effect this could have on the players. The truth is that in general terms there is always a great hustle and bustle when there are games, fans supporting their teams, shouting slogans for or against, which overall gives that atmosphere of celebration, of competition.
And I am sure that all this is perceived by the players, who tend to be affected in some way by the shouts of their fans. I visualized that, when one of the athletes scored a goal, and by habit there was a big cheer, this time it wasn't there. It is something like when we watch a game on TV, we know that if we miss something there will be a replay, but when it is live, and it is not televised, we will be waiting for the replay before any play.
I could not stop thinking about that, it probably must have affected the performance of the players, although I know they are professionals, and they are used to working under pressure, and I know that many times that pressure leads one to have a better performance, but I do not know how it affected them, that only they themselves will know.
What is very true is that sports have become a kind of spectacle, beyond a big business, and considering this, it is logical to think that it would take an audience to be complete.
