What you"ll need
- 3 apples ( I used red apples)
- Sugar ( 2 tablespoons ) it is better to use sugar not honey because sugar will feed the bacteria that induces fermentation better and it will ensure faster fermentation.
- A clean jar (It has to be a glass jar not plastic e.g. mayonnaise jar)
- Clean water (bottled water preferably)
- Wooden or plastic spoon for stiring
- Cheese/muslin cloth or white handkerchief to cover
- Rubber band to hold the cheese cloth or handkerchief tightly over jar so that fermentation can take place properly.
Procedure
~ Cut 3 apples into piece.
~ Put them in a jar, fill the jar with clean water and add 2 tablespoons of sugar.
~ Cover the jar with a clean piece of cheese cloth or muslin material and use rubber band to hold it in place. Please ensure that the apple pieces are completely submerged in the jar.
~ Keep in a dark warm place for 2 weeks. Make sure you stir every night or every other night with the wooden or plastic spoon, cover it right back and return to the dark, warm place.
~ On the last day of the 2nd week, remove the apple pieces by spreading a clean cheese cloth or sieve on a clean bowl, pour the contents into the cloth and squeeze out the liquid.
~ Wash the glass jar, pour the liquid back in and cover with the small piece of cheese cloth or handkerchief using the rubber band to hold it in place. Place it back at the dark warm corner for 4 weeks shaking the bottle everyday.
~ At the end of 4 Weeks( making it a total of 6 weeks) your home made ACV is ready.
Pour it into a glass bottle and cap it.
Since it takes such a long time (6weeks) to complete the process for a batch, it's better to start another batch almost immediately
I hope you learnt one or two things from this tutorial.
