The decentralization of energy

in energy •  7 years ago

In earlier less technologically sophisticated times people were pretty much self sufficient when it came to their energy needs.

At most families or villagers would need to get together to co-operate in a group hunt to take down large game.

As civilization has become more sophisticated and developed more and more complex technologies the interdependence levels have grown to where we have had to develop huge centralized energy extraction, benification and distribution chains to fuel our modern toys.

Fossil fuel and nuclear have been the stepping stone but finally we are reaching a point where renewable and specifically solar energy are chipping away at this centralized power generation.

In many parts of the world, where solar isolation is sufficient, household electrical and even transport will soon be able to be generated on a subsistence basis by people living totally off-grid.

Electric vehicles and battery storage are now making it feasible to go totally off-grid and become totally self sufficient in all aspects and relying purely on solar.

A solar only solution had the drawback in that it was only available during the day. We use much of our electricity after sunset and some before sunrise. Cost effective battery storage combined with solar panels is enabling on demand off the grid usage like never before.

The renewable energy revolution has the potential to decentralize energy generation and self sufficiency in ways that haven't been possible since the industrial revolution.

Energy will now no longer be the elusive domain of big business and government but many new small and medium sized enterprises are and will be emerging in this newly emergent space.

Welcome to the blockchain..wait, that's everywhere ...people will come with amazing new economies and ideas it will be like an explosion!

This is the kind of content that keeps the community going. Great post, will follow.

isnt this a beautiful thing?! technology is increasing so rapidly now days solving so many world problems. wouldnt it be great if we solved world hunger and violence caused by people trying to take control of everything. If there was no reason for people to have control then it would be a Utopian society. who knows if it will ever happen but it does seem possible now days.

It's glorious.

The decentralization of energy, micro-grid managment, storage and prodution has to be the future of energy suply. It might not just depend on solar, but wichever methods being more effective on the local grid.
This ideas might create an whole new industry of giving power to the people (pun intendend). We need to start working on giving the tools and education so that people can live off grid.
Other than the lobbys I believe the main obstacle today is the li-on batteries, but with advances with graphene based batteries I think we can solve this issue. While that hasn't been solved we can work with micro-grid managment and big battery ideas (like the use of a local lakes or something).

And like the industrial revolution, the decentralization of energy will create a massive change of politics and ways of life.

It's an exciting time to be alive, to watch these things unfold
