Ashers Big(ish) Words Contest - 1000 Steem Power Up For Grabs!

in engagement •  6 years ago  (edited)

Good day everyone!

Now that i'm back here for most of my waking hours, I have much more time to do more personalised data gathering, and delegate some Steem Power in the process.

The words to be totaled

This time, I've found a set of words that are generally positive and may have been typed by you over the past 10 months. The list of words I collected in the first instance were all fourteen letters long, but after running them against a selection of accounts I realised that I needed to shorten them a bit. My results on the original 25 fourteen letter words - 0 for the whole of this year!

The words I've chosen are as follows:

  • AFFECTIONATE
  • AGGRANDIZEMENT
  • BENEFICIAL
  • COLLECTIVENESS
  • DELIGHTFUL
  • DISRUPTIVENESS
  • ENTERTAINING
  • GROUNDBREAKING
  • HEDONISTIC
  • ILLUMINATING
  • LEGITIMATE
  • MAJESTICAL
  • NOTEWORTHY
  • OPTIMISTIC
  • PRECOCIOUS
  • THOUGHTFULNESS
  • UNCONVENTIONAL
  • OUTSTANDING

These are my results, and I think we can safely assume that someone on will easily beat this measly total of 27!

Even though English is my first language, you could be forgiven for assuming otherwise. I'm not a wordy person by any means, and prefer to write and speak in straightforward English. With my excuses out of the way, lets have a look at what the numbers look like for you guys - and maybe you can win some delegated SP at the same time.

Rules / Prizes

  • The data is collected from the 1st January 2018 to the 22nd October 2018. No point writing a bunch of comments with this words today and then asking for a chart!
  • 1st prize, 500 delegated SP for a month
  • 2nd prize, 350 delegated SP for a month
  • 3rd prize, 150 delegated SP for a month
  • The prizes will be issued on the day this post pays out
  • In the event of ties, I will think of something

OK then, who wants a bar chart and a chance to win some delegated Steem Power?

Cheers!

Asher

Results!

I've decided to share out the SP a bit more between the best scores:

AccountScore1 month SP delegation
@newageinv165250 SP
@blazing126250 SP
@glenalbrethsen95125 SP
@chireerocks92125 SP
@melinda01010080125 SP
@themanwithnoname72125 SP

I will delegate these amounts on the 1st November and cancel them on the 1st December.

Thanks for taking part!

hey, @abh12345.

Wasn't expecting this at all. Thank you. It is very much appreciated. I guess I'll need to get my act together now, which not only means using the SP to curate, but also managing to see when you mention me in a comment! I think I must have dozed off on Tuesday, or something!

Congratulations everyone, especially @newageinv and @blazing for the 250 SP delegations, and to @chireerocks, @melinda010100 and @themanwithnoname, who I seem to be congratulating quite a bit lately. :) Well done to all of us. :)

Thanks, buddy! You've been doing well yourself. Looking forward to seeing where you can go from here!

I have to say, October's monthly report is the first one I'm really looking forward to writing in months. Lately, my interest has been to see just how bad I did. This time, it will be to see how well I did despite how bad I did. :)

Work doesn't always equate to success, at least not in the moment. A lot of times it's seed planting for a future time, or just plain luck, being in the right place at the right time. Sure, you had to put yourself in the situation, but then there's a lot of other things that need to happen that are way out of your control for things to work out.

That's kind of the way things went in October, and there's just no reasonable way to duplicate that again. So, I'll just keep grinding away and see what happens.

That's good you're actually looking forward to it. It's important to enjoy your time on Steemit. Although you work it like a job, so maybe it's not as important to enjoy it.

If you're looking for more ways to earn income by commenting on quality articles, you should check out Curie's comment contest. You can basically go to the articles that they comment on, read the post, and leave a relevant comment. The top commenters can get some good Steem prizes. It's income, and it's honorable because you're actually engaging and contributing. https://busy.org/@curie/curie-comment-contest-october-21st-october-28th-2018

Yeah. I know all about the curie contest. I'm normally on the list towards the bottom, but last week didn't work out at all.

I do like getting something from them, though, so I need to get back into it this week. I'm also competing in the C-squared/C-cubed contests. These are all great because I'm not doing anything more than what I would normally do. A rough estimate from October saw me earning/winning 20 STEEM from the various contests. Better than a poke in the eye, and probably three times what I would make off of 20 non curied posts in a month.

I thought I had seen you there before. I just wanted to make sure. I got to the bottom part of the list the last few weeks. Last week I tried really hard, and still only got last place (I think) so we'll see what I'm able to do this week.

I don't think I'm in any of the C-squared contests. Are they engagement-based?

Pretty much. They have some kind of super top secret algorithm for at least one of them. :) Since you're already signed up for Asher's Engagement League (that's one part of this), you'll just need to go over to the C-squared server and put your name in, I think is how it worked. I haven't done it in a while, but there should be some instructions. You'll find all the usual suspects there, too.

Then you basically go curate and comment on the ones you like from the c-cubed curated lists, plus the ones C-squared has commented on. So, basically similar to the curie contest. You'll want to get caught up to speed better than that, but that's the general idea.

Thanks Glen, well done to you and all the a fore mentioned for adding this collection of 'biggish' words to the blockchain this year :)

In my case, it's a distinct pleasure and honor to do so. :)

In a world where reading has been on the decline for decades, where the actual use of 'big' words has not only been offset by smaller words, but many times supplanted by acronyms which replace many words at a time—I'm glad to be a rebel in the big word counter revolution. :)

@glenalbrethsen, Thank you so much and congratulations to you too. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

Thank you, @chireerocks.

I've got a monthly report I write about how I did with an assortment of categories that I'm actually looking forward to writing this time in months, even though I know I didn't do so well with things like comments and posts. October was good for me and while I have no idea how I'm going to duplicate it in November, let alone surpass it, I'm certainly wanting to try. :)

It would be nice if October became the norm rather than the outlier, but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Welcome, and most important thing is, let it flow how it's moving because most of the times when we see stats then that stats always going to remind itself. So we have to move in flow and stats will going to buildup accordingly. Keep up the great work and wishing you an great heights. Stay blessed. 🙂

@abh12345, Oh, that's awesome and for sure it will going to add value to whatever Engagement efforts i am putting brother. Keep up the great and boosting work. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

My pleasure, thanks for taking part and well done on your score :D

Welcome and thank you so much. 🙂

That's what the delegation was from. I remember looking at this when it came out, but didn't realize I had won something! Thanks, Asher! I'll put it to good use over the next month. I promise not all of the RCs will get spent on Steem Monsters. ;)

Well @abh12345. Even when english is not my first or native tongue, just for the sake of it, let's snoop to see how many of those big words are hidden & embedded inside the core of my weird spanglish. };)

A lovely selection here! :D

Oh crap! that's unconventionally disruptive, hedonistic and groundbreaking my friend. Well, 'that' not to say it was delightfully noteworthy, majestical and entertaining!! LoL

Haha! I'm am pretty sure you'll come up with a blank for me! I used pessimistic recently, but I don't think optimistic.

Some bars on the chart at least, cheers!

Uh, most of these aren't words I typically use - does this mean I'm generally negative then? I hope not, so please let me know if I used at least one of them ;)

You have one 'outstanding' to your name :D

As a non-native speaker (but an excellent one at that) these 'word contests' are going to be tough to score high. I'll have to go back to the numbers next time!

phew, at least one! :D
Thanks for checking!

Yes please for my usage of these words. Thanks Asher, the Bar(chart)man ;-P

bars.jpg

hahaha! Epic! :D :D I might have to use this image at some point, awesome!

23 and good use of 'delightful' :D

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Your Delightful response is both Noteworthy and Illuminating, and makes me Optimistic that some Beneficial Entertainment is to be Affectionately had. I'm Delighted! ;-)

I'd enjoy seeing how I fared. :)

Let's have a look...

72 total and 9 different words, very good!

I fared fairly well. ;)

I must have been entertained at some point. I have noticed that I tend to use a similar word or phrase many times within a short span, and then I'll find a new word or phrase that I start using. It's not something that I specifically attempt to do, it just happens.

I would have scored higher with aggrandizement or self-aggrandizement, but I prefer to use "self-reward" instead.

That was an "entertaining" query. Thanks for running the numbers!

My pleasure. These posts always do pretty well as far as engagement is concerned, even when there is no prize at stake.

Self-reward, selfie, selfish-git? :) - we have has at least one person with a match though, and no, it wasn't Ned!

It's fun to see where you land in regards to other people, even if there's no prize.

Hey, how difficult is it to do a chart of an accounts SP over time, week by week? Now that I'm doing the minnow power-up league, I'm curious how I did from week to week over the last while. I know the rate has increased since my first few months. ;)

Difficult, as there is no history table that i see for the accounts table.

I suspect that people are building these warehouses right now and so at some point we can map account growth.

Although I do not need the SP delegation (but thanks), I would like to know as well! Please leave me out of the competition as other would benefit more from the delegation. Thanks!

Ok I will do that, very good of you - let's see :D

165 and the clear leader! Someone will be grateful for you opting out of the delegation, excellent stuff!

Wow! To think I don’t consider myself a “glass half full” type of guy! I guess it is my passion for Steem and crypto that gets me positive!

Positivity is free, thanks for sharing it around 😁

i think those are out of my dictionary hahah but still would want to have a look :)

What the blazing is going on here?!

I've had to reset the axis to fit that 106 on - 126 in total, and a clear leader, outstanding!

I wonder if @blazing will be back...

giphy.gif

You're back! And in the lead!

Good afternoon, @abh12345.

'Big' words, eh? Intriguing. I would very much like to see my chart, please. I really don't know how it's going to turn out, but I'm going to predict that there are some words I've not written in a comment or a reply:

  • aggrandizement—that's ned's word.

  • collectiveness—collective, collectively, maybe

  • distruptiveness—disruptive, probably

  • hedonistic—can't imagine how I would slip that one in there :)

  • majestical—didn't know it was a word :)

  • precocious—doubtful

Now, watch. I will have instances of all of those and none of the rest. :)

Oh, and I'm not looking for a delegation here (even if I did manage to 'win'). This is simple curiosity, since I do like 'big' words. :)

Good day Glen

As always, the words wont suit everyone, and i suspect it will be one or two words by someone using them a lot that will win the day. Let's have a look..

A grand total of 95, great stuff! (And you used neds word twice :D )

Weird. :) I must have been talking about him using the word. :) As for entertaining, I would have never guessed I used it that many times. I'm not that easily entertained, or so I thought.

If I had guessed actual high usage, optimistic and legitimate would be about the highest. I have no idea how beneficial sneaked in there.

Well, thank you. As always, a fun, and enlightening exercise. :)

It's my pleasure, and I'm glad you think so. Look out for a few more of these I suspect :D

Haha awesome idea. Please run my chart! I know i havent used most of those majestical words, but let’s see it! ☺️

Thanks @mountainjewel!

I'll get straight to it...

32 scored and 9 unique words, well done there!

glad to see hedonistic was thrown in there. thanks Asher!!

@abh12345, this is awesome for sure and good to see that you are once again back with this Interesting Contest and hope and wish that it will be great to see who will win this exciting contest. Keep up the great work and wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

A nice total!

Thanks and same to you :)

Welcome. 🙂

How about this? I wanna see mine too, hope I'll come out okay

I think you've done better thank OK here..

A fine score of 52, well done!

Wow not too bad

Hello Asher!

Hope so you are doing fine. Well everything is fine at my end too.

I think it seems an amazing idea to empower the members with this unique contest. Seems quite interesting. Although I have written plenty of inspirational blogs since January 2018 but I really do not know how many times I have used the above mentioned words Lolx :D

Hey Salman :) Glad to hear you are well.

The words are taken from your replies, and not top level posts, but lets have a look.....

I make that a total of 57, which puts you clearly into the lead. And even a score for 'aggrandizement', nice!

Wow! It is so interesting, delightful and off course an outstanding way to let us know that what we had used. I am looking forward for another contest next time based upon the posts/blogs ;)

OK... I'm curious if I have ever used those words!

Yes you have and 80 is a good score!

I guessed that delightful would show up, but had no idea about the others! And I'm very happy to know that it's a good score! Or should I say it's a delightful score, Asher!

I may be too late for the party, but I think it would be delightful and entertaining to be charted! I like to be unconventional so it not out of character to get here late. It would be beneficial to see if I have dropped any of these words in my rare posting career this year. Most of my writing has been in the comment section, which may or may not be part of your dataset. And I'm aware the words I used in this comment do not count! :D Thanks for your cool charting project and have a great week ahead!

EDIT: Just reread, and apparently the replies/comments ARE your dataset. Good, I may have a chance!

Just in time, let's have a look.....

Thanks for visiting :)

Although I am not really sure which words I favor in this list but would love to see my tally as well :-)

17 in total, and 7 unique words, not bad at all!

Wow! 'beneficial' really seems to be doing the magic here :-)

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Me please 🤗 Hedonistic is the top 25 very interesting 😝

No sign of 'hedonistic' but some words present at least :D

I've tried to use my .50 cent words. I'm surprised to see legitimate uses do frequently. Thank you Asher. I appreciate all of your work and support.

Do me hard. Going on that list I don't think many.

Aye aye :D

Well I would have expected more, considering how much you write. Bonus points for 'hedonistic' though :D

Lol. I am surprised there are so many :)

Considering how much text you've entered here this last 10 months, this looks very low!

No chance that I'll be anywhere near the top of the leaderboard, but what the heck, let's have a look and see how bad I am?

heh :) Alright then.....

Above the average so far I think!

Well that's more than I was expecting to see.

Hey Asher, do you know that the first time you did this. I didn't get it but now I know the facts. Show me the chart!

This is a new contest words wise, but similar to the last one :)

Some scores on the doors at least!

Interestingly, I thought I was not going to secure any scores at all. I will be consciously aware of my words now. Thanks Asher!

My pleasure!

I think I'd be the one with the epic results. :D

A little short of epic, but scores for 4 words at least :D

I am pretty sure I have not used those words much at all. Still you know I want to see.

Let's have a look then :)

6 unique words and a total of 18, not bad!

These things usually do turn out way better than I expect. Thank you very much. Good to see you back.

My pleasure, thanks for the welcome home :)

I guess I'm gonna save myself from embarrassment.
So I just stopped to say hi and bye 🙃I'm absolutely sure there is no chart for me, I have a big zero as a result. So please 😊

Well I have to take a look don't I :D

5 more than you expected!

Yesterday in one of my posts I said "Diversifying my vocabulary is also a priority for me." I knew I'm a disaster :)

Hi Asher. Not my normal words i must admit and like you keep things simple. I know it will be entertaining and maybe delightful to see how many of those words I have used. A bit optimistic I know as maybe this can be included in the count and be legitimate.

It seems these words are not frequent to many of the respondents thus far, but 19 is a pretty solid total :D

Shocked myself with that lot. Didn't think I would get any. thanks again.

No worries, I'm glad to see you find content 'entertaining' and 'beneficial' :)

I think i used Entertaining & Outstanding.
Anyway amazing and unique contest you placed here as usual. Thanks Asher/ @abh12345

You are absolutely right @rabeel :)

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Very interesting. I'm pretty sure I used one or two of the words...once or twice. 😂
It would be interesting to find out how evolved my English is so let's see the chart. 🙂

And I hereby present you with a chart showing 'one or two of the words...once or twice. 😂'

Lol... Better than expected. 😂
No worries, next year I will make my big come back. I'm looking for posts where I can comment with words like antidisestablishmentarianism, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and incomprehensibilities. It will be a sesquipedalian comment. 😂

You over-estimate me, I wont be using words I can neither understand or pronounce!

I'm pretty sure i haven't used these words much, would like to look at the chart pls :)

Delightful :D

Lol apart from beneficial I don't think i've used any of those words much. I'd love to see my stats would be hilarious

Well I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised...

30 in total which I think is the best so far :D

LOL OMG it wasnt even my best I cant beleive i say legitimate and entertaining so much. Doesn't sound like me at all

I guess you visit many entertaining posts :D

I don't even know what some of these words mean :D

But I hope that I have used at least some of them, that I know.

There are a lot of words to choose from, many of what I saw I had no clue about!

Entertaining stuff! :D

Could I have one bar chart please. I'm hoping that optimistic might get me up there a small bit. I'm sure I have used it somewhere along the way. The rest not so much. 🤔

Posted using Partiko Android

Let's have a look...

Some usage and 4 unique words :)

Thanks. I was hoping for a bit more optimism in there but i will just have to try a bit harder going forward. Good post and a fun way to do a contest. You always have something interesting on the feed.

I want to see mine @abh12345

Something there at least :)

I would love to see my bar for big ish words @abh12345! :-)

One word, used an outstanding amount :D

LOL oh thank goodness I got one word and 47 is a cool number!
I'm surprised I used it that many times!!
Thank you very much @abh12345! :-)

Wow! How do you get all of this information? I love the tech savvy ness. Put me down for one graph sir. Thank you for all of your hard work @abh12345

I query a copy of the blockchain which is held on a SQL server :)

Some score at least, thanks for asking!

Haha, nice! I didn’t think I’d get but maybe a one of those words used. Pret-tea cool @abh12345. Thanks for the graph.

Maybe I have used 1 or 2 words in a post. But can't remember when.
Some words even doesn't ring a bell. Okay English is not my mother tongue but should be pretty okay with it.
So, I do assume that it will be an empty bar, but let's give it a shot :)

Well I'm hopeful the bar wont be empty, but you are doing well using these words being a non-native speaker..

Could have been worse, cheers!

I want to see my account, hopefully the results are good

Not bad at all :D

I'd be surprised if I used more than three of those words, and most of them to be spelled correctly would have to be caught by the spell checker, but lets see if I have at least a handful of them.

4/5 handfuls there :D

I am kind of surprised at that. Must have been a few post that I read that were beneficial in one manner or another.

beneficial and or entertaining :)

Hi @abh12345!

If not too much of a problem, I would be interested in seeing mine, although I did not begin posting until May.

Nice to hear your schedule is improving for more time "in here." Looking forward to your "report," once back from SteemFest!

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi Rob, of course not, let's have a look......

You only have half the time here than most who've replied, and so I don't think that chart is a fair assessment.

The reports of hopefully useful bits of info will be coming in throughout the event and for a few weeks following it's completion :)

Yes, well, you're very kind @abh12345, but twice the posting wouldn't change these numbers much ...😉

I didn't think your list of words are ones I use much, but thought it would be good fun to find out.

Thank you sir! 👍

Posted using Partiko Android

You got a 18.95% upvote from @ocdb courtesy of @abh12345!

Groundbreaking? Never heard of that one, lol! I'd love to see mine. I guess I'll be happy to see 5 of them in total :D

I use it occasionally in speech, but clearly didn't write it in a comment this year :)

6 for you, thanks for entering! :D

I was almost right, lol. But now I have learned new words, so will use them more often :) Thank you for the chart Asher!

It's my pleasure!

I know mine will surely look empty. because I haven't used any of those words .

Not quite! :D

Hola @abh12345. ¡Por favor! ¿puedes hacer la mia? es una cuenta pequeña, cariños y besos.

Sí, pero como escribes en español, ¡¿necesitaría traducir todas las palabras ?!

muy cariñoso! :D

Gracias de todas maneras, no te preocupes, podrias hacer otro concurso, con las palabras mas largas,

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Lol I don’t 😂

I don’t think I’ve used any of the above words. Well maybe one or two....once or twice.

But nonetheless it’s a great initiative once again @abh12345

Can I just say, that I think you are outstandingly optimistic :D

Thanks @mindtrap!

WoW didn't expect that :P

I can almost guarantee I have not used any of those words.
Unless, possibly in Haiku.
Finally the magic words for steemit success!
IMG_5384.JPG

haha :) Well I wouldn't say using these words equals success, just a random selection as part of a 'fun' contest.

Better than nothing :D

I'm surprised I had that many! Fun for sure.

Lol, I barely know what those words mean, let alone that I would use them. You're discriminating people who aren't native speakers, @abh12345 ;0P

I love lists, but I'm pretty sure there is none this time. Would you mind taking a look, just in case?

Sorry, I'm not sure how to get around this :D

Some scores there at least!

Asher I would like to partecipate, but I think that I will have a bad result: 0 for each word...😣

Posted using Partiko Android

Hi @moncia90, sorry but no matching words were found. I'll try and do something a bit different with the next contest :)

Thank you but I also do not know the meaning of a lot those words😅
I have tried to write you privately in discord.
I would like to create something in Italian Community!

Posted using Partiko Android

Lol! What a fun idea! I’m almost positive I haven’t used any of those ... except 0ptimistic, for my positivity posts. And I’ve intentionally misspelled it here so it won’t be added to the count. So please, shoot me a bar graph! I’m sure it’ll be del1ghtfully illumin@ting, perhaps even gr0undbreaking 😉

Posted using Partiko iOS

Thanks! :D

Yes I think you need to start spelling these right!

WoW for a dutchie I think these ones are NOT on My chart...... unfortunately ..... but dear asher I wil stay the affectionate, delightful, entertaining, optimistic, engaging and thoughtful community managing steemy Britt 😉 positive is the 10 month period that might make THE difference.
Hit me up with the empty chart👀
ohhh still a few days to go did you start the packing already ?

I'm sure the chart wont be empty!

See! It's like a checked prior to writing the above :D

Packing will be done the day before and not a moment sooner!

YES lucky number 3 is again coming up!

Wow! @brittandjosie, you have powered past 500 SP! I have returned my delegation to pass on to others, thank you for being around! :D

Offcourse pass it on, and I highly appreciated the help and I am staying around. I am powering on... untill we meet again keep steeming let me know who you are helping next and I Will vote the account to help too....

Fascinating contest @abh12345!!! :O
I probably haven't used any of these, but I'm incredibly curious to find out :D

Thank you @kristyglas!

How illuminating and unconventional this bar is :D

Thanks xD I wonder if this is accurate tho haha, as those are not my kind of words :D

I don't write a lot but I would love to try it out.
Let's go!

Here you are :)

Lol
That's too poor

I don't think I use any of the words you listed there... I wonder how my chart would look like?

Posted using Partiko Android

Your chart will look like this..

I never realize I did use these two words... I guess if you look for "yummy", "yummilicious"... I guess my chart will look better... hahaha...

Hello, @abh12345, my publications are the majority in Spanish, they count, because I know that I have several of those that you mention.

Hi @rvag5, you have a total of 1 for 'outstanding'. Sorry this is biased towards accounts writing blogs in English :(

I think mine will be 0 for all. Lets see if I can get that 0 graph :P

I would like a Bar Chart please ...

Surely something will turn up...

Well into double figures! :D

That's more then I expected. Thanks for all the cool graphs that you make.

I'm pretty sure I've never used these words... But I always thought I was a positive person... 😭 Now I'm depressed...😔 Note to self: upgrade use of words... (copy/paste the above and use in next ten posts 😉)

The words will be different next time, which should be a good thing for you because it's a 0 here - sorry!

I knew that ;)

Wow, I'm curious about that. I wonder if I have none...

Here you are :)

Thank you! As expected XD

Am i late to the party? I will love to see mine, even tough I doubt I am gonna beat you or anyone...😀

Still time :D

Lol! They definitely aren't words i use often....

I'm not sure how this contest works. only one of those words look familiar. But then I think I only used it a few days ago

Thanks for dropping by :D

I want to see the bar though 😂 but you'll find it funny because I'm not really good in english words. But I think I have 4 for entertaining 😊 please

It can't hurt to find out, and I reckon you'll be doing better than you think :D

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Whooaaa... thank you Barman @abh12345 😊 I think I have read many "entertaining" posts this year..and why is "exceptional" not include?

Ex-barman :)

Exceptional is an exceptional word and probably should be listed - some other time perhaps!

Ooppss.. I missed the 18 hours ago post again 😊 so, you'll come back with pies and tables again soon.. Yyaaaayy! No summoners needed.

I think I have not even wrote any of the words in the comments, would love to see if I have used even one.

I'm afraid you are correct and none of the words appear. No 'delightful' utopian-io contributions this year? :D
