Yes I still disagree Asher! You are amazing and a wonderful person, so my disagreement is definitely not with you as a person though. ;)
I think the concept that people need "help" from someone bigger to make a post or comment or vote a witness or anything that should be free, will turn people off. It has turned me off. I came here because I thought it was a place that people could earn over time, but be social in the process. Now there is a barrier to entry and you need permission from a gatekeeper to even speak your mind.
I don't think this is about spam either, I think its about money. Leasing the RCs is going to be another form of income. The spam issue is nothing compared to the negativity that people are feeling at the low end.
And your analogy about letting people into your house is not conducive to having the masses show up. You can't get the masses to come by your home and screen them one by one. So if you want to keep it a small niche with a few that enter your home, then that analogy is perfect. If you want millions to show up, then you should expect some that get in that you don't like. (and isn't that what flags were for?)
I know you have your opinion and I fully trust that you have great intentions. I think time will tell which of us is right. You have been here longer and I respect your heart, and for the record I do hope you're right and I'm wrong. I will be happy to eat some crow on this one!

It's still free, you just have to wait to get more free stuff :) As i said, this has been the case before, and people enjoyed helping out. It's not Steemit incs community, it's all of ours.
The masses wont turn up all at once, that is unless a dapp or SMT buys up 1000's of accounts (which will happen), and throws some power at them to start people off (which will likely happen).
Then, any 'weight' will be off our backs and we can focus on delegating a little to family and friends, or delegating out to SMTs, whilst holding enough to interact and talk about how much passive income we are earning.
Around 10000 unique accounts posted each day in early September, that's less than 0.1% of all registered accounts. Rolling out the resource credit carpet to welcome the good guys will surely see better stats than that!
