I've personally decided against using steemauto.

What is Steemauto?

@Steemauto is an open source project that was developed to provide steemit users the option to automate tasks. Some of the features that they provide are:

  • Scheduling future post to publish automatically
  • Curation Trails
  • Fanbase (used to upvote your favorite author's post automatically)
  • Comment upvoting (used to upvote friends comment's on your post automatically)
  • Claiming rewards

Last week after being encouraged to use the project I decided to give it a try. I signed up for a curation trail for one of the communities I regularly participate in on discord. Then I started adding my favorite content creators here on steemit to my "fanbase" settings.

It literally took me only a few minutes as the process was very easy. Kudos to @mahdiyari for developing a user friendly project that will benefit many steemit users. With that being said parts of @steemauto particularly "fanbase" and "comment upvoting" (autovote features) are not for me.

I value engagement and you should too.

Authentic interactions between users on steemit are vital to the success of the platform. Making sure to engage with the people you follow and those who follow you will ultimately be a big determinant of your personal success along with steemit's as well.

This is why I have decided against using the autovote features of @steemauto. I noticed that I immediately began to engage less with the very people that I want to support the most. With the automatic upvotes I found myself scrolling past their post because it had already been upvoted.

Also automatic upvotes don't help the author improve the quality of their work. If I blindly like everything the author post how are they supposed to differentiate between poor and quality post? As a user on the platform I feel its my duty to be selective in regards to which post I upvote and promote.

What are your thoughts?

Let me know what you think. Do you feel that some features of @steemauto will hurt the platform in the long run? Are you a user of their different features and if so which ones?

I can see myself using the autovote features in the future when I am on vacation away from the computer, but I won't be subscribing to them on a day to day basis.

I've had a similar experience where I found myself engaging less with the authors I want to connect with. For that reason, I simply made a point to comment more on their posts. But I do understand the point about quality. That's a good one to bring up. Where SteemAuto has the most value for me is in voting for curation trails, but I've found that my voting power is much weaker if I do too much automation, so I've slowed things down considerably by lowering the percentage of my votes. It's a big learning process.

The feature I was most excited about was being able to schedule post in attempt to take advantage of times when users are most active on steemit. With that being said it sounds like users are making the necessary adjustments for the service to fit their personal needs. Let's hope those needs will be good for the platform as a whole in the long run.

Yes. Let's hope. And I think they will. As long as it isn't abused, it can be a good thing.

I have been a user of SteemAuto for a while now and I understand what you are saying. There have been times when I am not sure if I should be using it or not. I do however have a limited number of users that I add to my auto upvote.

I also use an app called Steemify along with SteemAuto. Steemify signals me when my favourite content creators post and I can access their post and read it right from the app. I am happy with the combination.

That does sound like a good combo. I've never heard of the Steemify app so I will have to check it out.

I understand this, meaning that idealistically I would love to be able to hand curate everyone I want to support. However, its very hard to do, and I more often than not miss the mark.

So in my head it works this way. I rather bend my ideals a bit, support the people that can be blessed by it, and then do my best to follow my votes or (helpies) to catch up on the content.

So literally I look at voting histories, to see what I've voted on, or what helpie has (it has a big chunk of my sp) and then, like right now.. Interact with the author.

It's not ideal, but it works for me.

I understand completely. I feel like it works better for someone in your position who has more SP and a bunch of relationships with other users that you wish to support. You are also doing your part to double back and engage with those users you have upvoted. I'd be curious to see how often that happens with others who use the service.

For new users like myself I think it's important to self curate so that we are building those meaningful connections over time. Maybe in time the value will shift where it makes sense for me to utilize some of the autovote features.

This is the reason I don't follow voting trails or delegate steem power either: I do a lot of post reading, and I like the chance to choose where my support appears rather than hand that power over to someone else. I guess if you have a lot of faith in a curator or in certain content creators, though it could be a good system.

It's good to know that other people out there share my thoughts as well. I think this is the best approach for the health of the platform.
