It all started this day when with great difficulty i managed to get myself through 12th grade as a science biology student with not so shiny grades but yes i had gotten through it was the day of results announcement the day which makes or breaks a boy in a country like mine, the place named after the indus, the place and the land called India. Academics and me were never on the same page the major reason being 'mathematics' which was the prominent part of the science stream, the nightmare like name, a subject which has sworn on the day it was chirstened that it would devastate the lives of aspirers and the millennials to come and give them sleep less nightmares having them worried about their future as pioneers in any field of science because there was always this prodigal son of devil in the way to just make it a bit more harder.
Well talking about the day everything was quite normal until i hear this thundering voice from the background the voice that every boy succumbs to in our country the voice that had equal hand in our existence yes its the voice of my man the voice of my 'dad'.He says and i quote "son its done and decided now that you are done and dusted with 12th grade you will become an engineer". Yes i know what is going on in the mind of the one who's reading this, no i wasn't given a second of all the time i had in the world to think about my dreams and my future like the countless other boys whose dreams are crushed in an instant on this cloudy day the day of 12th grade results.
And yes the inevitable happened after this day to me and to many such students who had graduated that day. We were all pushed towards the horrendous degree of 'Engineering' and few towards 'Medicine' as not everyone could afford the privilege of becoming a doctor as it comes at a cost in country like ours, its mostly for the rich and elite nerds whose parents would end up paying a amount as close as 10million to a base price of at least 5million depending on one's scores, yes this is as much as one would pay to become the guy with a white coat and a stethoscope in our country, so what happens to the crowd that cannot afford making their children into doctors well the answer is quite simple they all get pushed and dragged into engineering as its the most cost effective alternative to medicine but still parents are willing to pay a ransom of close to half a million for the entire course yes this is how much it costs to a individual to graduate out of an engineering college if he opts for a management seat, if he isn't shortlisted in the merit placement which most of the times drowns the parents in huge debts a risk our parents are quiet willing to take. And the problem exactly starts here more of a situation I'd say the reason being 80% of students as per the survey pushed into engineering either suck at maths like me or they simply wanted to pursue something else but were never given a chance by parents to speak out as they were so afraid of their son/daughter not becoming a engineer or a doctor that they completely decided to ignore the fact that their child could have been so much more, he/she could have been an innovator or a believer or for what its a worth a leader or an influencer but thanks to the society of India for whom it means engineering and doctors are the only professions that could bring you coloured bills which is completely false as today in our country the condition of engineers is so bad that they hardly earn as much as 250dollars or 15thousand rupees in india and still the parents of india are so adamant and ignorant that they are just fine with it as our country due to its high population, poverty and competition, complacence is the way to go as for them it is like this, if you never try something new you will never fail and as i write this article about a boy's struggle in India to conquer his dreams i myself have transitioned into a man who is still struggling to complete his degree skeptical about his future yes im a engineering failure and a failure in society a society that might not get their daughters married to me because im not a engineer or a doctor and the degree gets to decide my manliness, such is my country such are its people but let this be a shout-out to all my fellow brothers we could be more we will be more we aren't failures but we are the wave of change in our country and we will prove to our parents and our country that being a engineer or a doctor isint the end of this world and i don't blame my parents but i blame the society and its stereotypes......!!!
