It is the most important traditional holiday of the Chinese calendar year, also known as the Spring Festival or as the Lunar New Year and millions celebrate it, not only in China but in the whole world.

Each street, building and house are decorated in red during the New Year celebrations, because it is associated with wealth and good fortune in Chinese culture. The celebrations begin on the first day of the first lunar month and end on the fifteenth day, when the Lantern Festival is celebrated. This year will start on February 16. It is the favorite tradition for children because it is considered the equivalent of Santa, children are those who benefit most from this tradition, which consists of giving red envelopes with money, the dances are one of the most beautiful parts only the seen in movies but it must be spectacular to be there and witness the Lion Dance and the Dragon Dance are very important for this celebration, because it is considered to bring good luck and scare away evil spirits.
Spring cleaning, In the days before the New Year, it is customary to clean the house, eliminating bad luck from last year. In Mandarin, the word "dust" is a homophone of the word "old" (Chen) and, therefore, must be removed from every corner of the house. Usually, families gather for dinner on New Year's Eve. Traditionally a homemade dinner is prepared with multiple dishes that include meanings of luck, for example, steamed fish, meatballs and spring rolls. In southern China, it is more common to see nian gao, a chewy ball made of glutinous rice and tangerines, a symbol of good fortune.
