I CHANGED MY HABITS, I CHANGED MY LIFE

in english •  4 years ago
Greetings dear reader.

Today I want to bring you my personal experience regarding the positive result that my life had by modifying and changing habits.

Do we remember what habits are?

It is all that we re-perform on a recurring basis in our daily life. Example: brush our teeth every morning.

As I mentioned, not all habits generate positive things in us, since if we have negative thoughts daily, as a result we can only have bad days, depression, etc.

In my particular case with being overweight, and I know that it is a case that most go through, I got to feel very depressed, overwhelmed and stressed. I felt that it was becoming more and more a vicious circle, since even though I did other things like work, and some activities that kept me active, I would not stop suffering from negative thoughts towards me and my body.

However, he always knew that fighting it was the best option to have a full life. I am one of those who give good advice to people, of those who have a profession of guiding others, of developing their physical and cognitive abilities in an efficient way, she told me, then, why not do it with myself.

It is not easy to get to the point that it does not hurt or disconnect you from things that involve the well-being of the people you love, it is very difficult, but not impossible. To which I remembered one day "everything that you cannot control teaches you to let go"; but what does this mean? that there are simply things that do not depend on you, that it is not in the possibility that it is you who can fix it, then, this was in my hands, why not do something about it.

It's not easy, but is not impossible either.
So I started with the most important thing, to eat healthier again. The important thing about this process and that I must highlight is the mistake that most of us make when we want to change our way of eating, we start calling it DIET, when we call it this automatically our brain begins to think about sacrifices. But, if we begin to call it * change of habits * we can visualize it in a different way, it is something more lasting in time.

On the other hand, we begin to eat healthy foods strictly, and put aside in one fell swoop the things we used to eat. This is where anxiety attacks start. It is not advisable to start starving ourselves, we must be clear that THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN THE MEALS, the problem is us, the use and the frequency with which we eat x foods.

In my case, the fried foods began to disappear (hey! A Venezuelan who does not eat empanadas ...), but definitely the fried foods are not good to eat very often, likewise, soda or soft drinks, energy drinks or flavored waters. That was my starting point, and believe me the results are starting to show.
I started to lower the portions of carbohydrates such as pasta or rice and add more salads to my dishes, not eating so much protein in stews or stews, but rather well prepared on the grill. Phew, the difference is even greater. (But then food didn't become a problem for me and they'll know why)

But while making healthy food a habit is 70% of the way to lose weight, the other 30% depends on daily physical activity. Yes, many lose weight just by eating well, it is true, but physical activity not only shapes your body, but also generates and fills other aspects of daily life.

You feel more energetic, you have interaction with other people who maybe are on the same path and with the same goals, you make friends, you just start to feel so good that you see life from another perspective.

I started when I was 35, I had only been a mom for two years and my body changed a lot after my son was born. People always say "when you breastfeed sales, hahahaha for me it was the opposite. During pregnancy I did not gain weight, but when the baby was born, my anxieties were triggered, postpartum stress was present, and I ended up gaining a few kilos with it. that he was not satisfied.

So I started training in my brothers' gym (crossfit), they are the athletes of the family, tall and with an athletic body, no matter how much they eat a lot hahahaha. But I can also say that they are the best engine to drive anyone, they are the best coaches, believe me with them it is very difficult to give up.

At the beginning it was not easy at all, I must say, the first weeks I had pain in places where I never thought they could hurt me, muscles that I did not know I had. But my brother told me, "You are just waking up your body and those parts that you have never used of it." But in two weeks she was still ready for more. Surrounded by positive people and motivating each other in each exercise, in each repetition.

Starting from there, I started running motivated by my partner and that in some training routines they demanded it. Then we signed up for our first race, it was only 5 kilometers, but I couldn't complete it. For me it was disappointing, part of being me is that I never leave anything by half, I always finish what I start. So for me it was the beginning of a new challenge.

I had always hated running, what's the point of running? ... as a friend said, why run if no one is chasing you! 😅

Then my challenge began, yes I will. And I started to do better during my workouts.
With other colleagues from the gym we did groups and go running on weekends and to attend races.

Then I began to enroll in races 🤪 and from there, due to the feeling of well-being that crossing the finish line gave me, achieving it over and over again, and determined to do so, I would touch myself at some point. And meeting so many people from different places with the same passion ... is priceless. (I still have good friends that I met at the races)

It became a passion; passion that began to motivate others to want to do it, and that gives much more satisfaction to be an inspiration to others and the commitment to be a constant guide. I ran charity races for many childhood cancer organizations, breast cancer, among other world-ranking races.

But I didn't stop there, I climbed into the world of running and opened up to experience something more difficult like TrailRunning (mountain races), outside day or night, in cold mountains or in deserts. The asphalt became boring after experiencing the trail, being in the middle of nature challenging your mind and body at all times, definitely the best feeling in the world. That motivated me even more to do other things that perhaps at other times in my life I would have been self-conscious about doing them.

In conclusion, everything can start with a little motivation, but it will always depend on the environment and how much it drives you to continue, on the people around you and how much they motivate or support you in your goals. Motivation is the first impulse, discipline is the habit that will lead you to be constant.
