A Day in My Life as an English Lecturer

The day starts early—4:00 AM to be exact. The sound of the alarm pulls me from my sleep, and I waste no time getting up. My first task is to head to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. A simple, wholesome meal is enough to give me the energy I need for the day ahead. After breakfast, I take a refreshing shower, a routine that not only wakes me up but also gets me ready to face a full day of teaching and work.

By 5:30 AM, I’m out the door and on my way to the train station. The morning air is cool, and the quiet hum of the city waking up feels comforting. During the ride, I use the time to mentally map out the day’s schedule, going over lesson plans and priorities in my mind. The train arrives at my stop just before 7:00 AM, and I step onto campus with enough time to prepare for my first class.

Once in my office, I organize my materials and ensure everything is ready to create an engaging experience for my students. Teaching is a highlight of my day—I love seeing the progress my students make, whether it’s mastering a tricky grammar rule or confidently presenting their ideas in English.

When classes wrap up, the campus quiets down, and I shift my focus to other tasks. Afternoons are often spent on research or administrative work. This could mean reviewing a student’s thesis, drafting new course materials, or diving into academic research. There’s always something to keep me engaged and learning.

Around 5:00 PM, it’s time to head home. The train ride back gives me a moment to relax and reflect on the day’s highlights. By the time I step into the house, the sun is beginning to set.

I like to end the day with some exercise. Whether it’s a quick jog or a home workout, it helps me release any tension from the day and keeps my energy levels up. Afterward, I prepare dinner—something simple yet satisfying.

The evening is dedicated to prepping for tomorrow. I review lesson plans, tweak activities, and ensure everything is ready for another productive day. By the time I’m done, it’s around 10:00 PM, and I finally get to crawl into bed, tired but happy.

It’s a demanding routine, but one I genuinely enjoy. Every day brings something new, and knowing I’m making an impact through teaching keeps me motivated.
