Good morning my readers, I have been a little absent due to work issues. Today I would like to talk about something that we currently live in my country (Venezuela), something that deeply affects me every time I see it, and it is the Famine
Hunger has become the daily life of many Venezuelans, previously influenced by the great lack of food, today due to the high cost of food. Food has become a total headache, both for the upper strata who struggle against the immense inflation that devours the miser salary and seek to buy it at a more accessible price, as well as for the lower strata that do not have as access to it.
In 26 years of my short life I had never seen so many people rummage through the garbage bags to look for food, we used to observe only the indigent to perform this type of action; nowadays we can observe even people who do not even impress being in street condition.
We see from older adults to very young children, women and men, all registering garbage in the avenues, behind the restaurants and bakeries and even many walk long kilometers asking from house to house if they have "some rest or some waste" that can give him to eat. It is extremely shocking to see how their faces light up and express great joy when they are offered even the smallest scraps of food, as if it were the best banquet they have tasted.
I have seen children eat the mango shells or the shells of the banana tree and this is their only portion of food a day, even many ask you to the ice of any drink you consume; fathers and mothers who lose their dignity and ride a bus to ask for money to buy food or come near with a lot of grief in a restaurant to ask for food.
The index of severe malnutrition observed in hospital emergencies is impressive, approximately 60% of patients admitted to a hospital present a certain degree of malnutrition, and many of them report that they only eat food once a day.
I see with deep sadness that my country is joining in the greatest famine it has ever experienced, comparable to that of those countries at war, and how it struggles to survive it.
