Park Introduction:

When amusement park Plohn was opened in 1996 as a fairytale forest, it was the first new amusement park in eastern Germany since the reunification. Over the years the fairy tale park has been extended by several smaller novelties such as a Boat Tour and the primeval village. This was followed by a western town with a Log Flume ride, which came to the park in 1999.

Ten years later, in 2009, for the first time, the park was put on the map with great attention in the media and the amusement park community, because a medium-sized wooden roller coaster was built in the small park by the American specialists "Great Coasters International". With the El Toro ride, the international fan scene also became interested. Even American groups on Europe tours came to Plohn.

Exactly another ten years later not only new theme areas and further small roller coasters as well as water rides were opened, but exactly to the tenth anniversary of the wooden roller coaster Plohn brings another big novelty, which marks again a milestone in the history of the park.

Dynamite – An Explosive Novelty:

Mack Rides from Waldkirch has already worked on the Log Flume ride and the Indoor Powered Coaster Miniwah. With the new Big Dipper Coaster they bring in a new cooperation now a Germany premiere into the park which packs a punch and is able to catapult the small charming park to new heights. But before we get to look at the ride in detail, we first have a look at the data sheet.

In order to run through the 500 meter long track, the carriage with two rows of seats for four persons each is first brought to a height of approximately 40 meters by a rather fast chain lift. From there it goes down 44 metres below ground level and into a tunnel.

The explosives box reaches up to 100 kilometres per hour on its way through a total of three inversions. No information has yet been given about the capacity and exact costs, but they must be well over 5.4 million euros, as El Toros costs where placed in this area and Dynamite is said to be the largest investment in the history of the park, but all this is gray theory and we now go into the details.

The Theme:

We are beginning our journey as usual at the entrance and in the waiting area. In front of the entrance, which is located at the main road of the western city, we can still look at the facades of the previous coaster "Silver Mine", which have been reworked once again. On the left above the entrance there are two vultures animatronics, which lure the guests on the explosive ride. The decoration around the entrance consists of many old machines which were used in mining in former times.

The waiting zone greets us with an old friend, the mine Lore standing here is a car of the Zierer Flitzer ride which stood here until 2017. Also the beginning of the waiting zone is exactly at the place of the old coaster, but was upgraded by an incredible amount of tools and utensils. A lot of effort was put into this area to achieve a harmonious design.

Further back another big animatronic awaits us. The slightly crazy miner with his dynamite poles prepares us for the explosive journey on dynamite. In the further process we can watch through a few windows into the ride area of the rollercoaster before we are led in the last part of the Q-Line at different drawings and descriptions of different machines into the station. Here our mine car is already waiting for us.

The layout of the roller coaster is not only designed by the 2 tunnel passages, but also passes the areas where the old machines are placed so that you have something to watch during the ride, if you can manage to watch them of course. Then you race on to the facades of the entrance and just in the last moment, it catapults in the Zero-G-Roll over the roofs.

The integration and playfulness with the older buildings is very pleasing and especially enhances the view from the outside. Great praise to the park, without these many elements the track would probably have become a bit too dominant in the small park, but this is how they managed to avoid this and create very nice lines of sight on Dynamite.

The Layout:

gently takes over the car and transports it quickly to the highest point of the lift. When we reach the top, we slow down a little, only to bank left and turn almost completely upside down before entering the first drop into the first tunnel.

The drop almost looks like a long half loop and reminds me of the B&M Wing Coaster Dive Drops, but just a bit faster, thanks to the compact cars. The tunnel is followed by a surprisingly fast airtime moment because before the car shoots up the TopHat-like hill, a small bunnyhop has been accommodated.

At the top of the next hill you can have a quick look over the western city before the car throws itself into a very intense 270 degree helix. This also leads through a tunnel and ends in a strong turn to the left.

Interestingly, the only two further rollovers follow now. It goes into a vertical loop followed directly by a Zero-G roll. This is also a striking feature of this ride, since the inversions here form the grand finale. Usually a rollercoaster opens the ride with its inversions. I find this refreshingly new.

After the two inversions follows a 180 degree curve which pushes us back into the comfortable seat shells and releases us into the soft magnetic brakes to bring us back to the station. A short but explosive ride without boredom comes to an end.

I am surprised, I want again.

The Ride Experience:

I don't know if I need to talk much more about the ride characteristics of modern Mack Rides systems. The track shines with a clean and smooth rolling behaviour, a smooth ride and extremely comfortable seats with the well-known pleasant restraint system which leaves a lot of freedom and still conveys a strong feeling of safety. This sets the ride absolutely on par with the level of modern competition in terms of ride characteristics and comfort and leaves nothing to be desired.

The ride also feels extremely dynamic thanks to the compact vehicles. The forces alternate in a pleasant sequence and Dynamite is not afraid to even tackle it a bit further for a moment. But always knows a precise measure to offer fun for a wide audience.

The balance over the course of the ride is very good and I can hardly imagine anyone going out disappointed. Especially because the coaster doesn't tend to exaggerate anywhere, but always performs the right manoeuvre at the right moment. Thumbs up for the cooperation of Plohn and Mack which has produced a roller coaster that is well worth experincing.

Conclusion:

20190518_134819.jpg

Dynamite offers a lot. Much for the eye, much for adrenalin junkies, for coaster fans but also for families, children from 1.30 meters in height and catapults the amusement park Plohn unerringly and successfully to new heights. If I want to look for criticism, then I can only think of the rather short ride time. But since Plohn has chosen the capacities basically well and the waiting times will continue to decrease as the routine progresses, so why not just get back in the queue and do it again? In spite of the short ride time, Dynamite is an extremely harmonious package that does not need to hide from larger players.

Plohn can be proud of this new rollercoaster and there is a big praise from me for the courage shown by a small family park to place such a major ride in the middle of the western city.
One or the other Park in the catchment area might have to take a close look to not fall behind.

I wish amusement park Plohn all the best on this great way. For me the concept is well done and I hope that they will present us there many more such great novelties and that the park reaches its goals.
