#AsdruReview: After 17 years playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman says farewell to the world of X-Men with “Logan”. The film is an exceptional closure for this character that we all love and played by a men we all love. It’s not a perfect film, but it definitely was a heartbreaking experience and with some bloody fight scenes… AKA, Logan style.
-Put your claws down: The movie, based on the Marvel comic “Old Man Logan”, is set in an alternate future where most of the mutant population has perished. Logan, who’s suffering from a issue with his healing factor, is taking care of a sick Charles Xavier/Professor X (Patrick Stewart). But the duo’s intent on hiding from the world is crushed after the arrival of a little girl called Laura Kinney/X-23 (Dafne Keen) and, with it, the mystery surrounding her existence and the company who’s behind it.
-Last ovation: Because of the liberties that the film got being rated R (Thanks Deadpool!), we finally got to see the character in all its glory: Arms removed, throats slashed and a story that highlights the pain that he’s gone through in HIS LOOONG LIFE. There are a lot of moments where you see how much this man has changed in a bad way and you just can’t help hugging him… And that’s a testament for how wonderful Jackman was. I also have to point out Stewart had phenomenal scenes like his conversation in the farm, and the way Keen managed to stand out without talking, which is something to admire.
-Sour note: I think the issue for me was the villains. Yeah, they did terrible things (which were well explained, thank god), but I think I just wanted someone who was more tough or iconic. Subject X-24 (no spoiler to the subject’s identity) was awesome, but I still wanted more.
Bonus Round:
-There are 3 or 4 scenes where you might cry. I sure did.
-This was also Stewart’s last time playing Professor X, although he did mentioned that he might take on the role again but in the TV show Legion (which, if you haven’t seen, it’s amazing).
-I liked the meta humor with the X-Men.
-I was submitted for the Oscars, and I definitely think it should be nominated. Come on, cinema gods!!
Score >>4/5. Leave a comment and watch Logan on DVD and Blu-Ray.
