Spoiler alert! Freeze all motor functions. If you haven’t watched season 2, episode 1 of Westworld and you don’t want to be spoiled by details, then this post isn’t meant for you.
If you want to be spoiled anyway or have seen the episode already, then carry on.
The Beginning
Westworld season 2, episode 1 opens with Dolores and Bernard (or is it Arnold?) talking.
Bernard or Arnold tells Dolores about his dream that he was on a distant shore. When Dolores asks Bernard if he was with them, he said, “You’d left me behind.”
When asks about the meaning of the dream, Bernard/Arnold says, “Dreams don’t mean anything, Dolores. It’s just noise. They are not real.”
“What is real?” Dolores asks. Arnold says, “That which is irreplaceable.” Well, that's heavy with meaning.
Dolores
When the park staff reviews the time stamp of one of the dead hosts, it shows Dolores killing one of her fellow hosts, saying, “Not all of us are destined to make it to the valley beyond.”
Along with Teddy, Dolores is shown to the audience on a killing spree, killing the park’s guests. When one of the guests says, “Can’t you see we’re sorry.” Dolores answers with this famous line, “Doesn’t look like anything to me.”
When Dolores and Teddy are alone, Dolores tells Teddy that she remembers everything now, the past, the present, the future and that she knows how the story will end – that it ends with the two of them.
William
After over 3 decades playing cowboy in the park, William sure did learn to survive in the wild, wild west. First, he kills 2 hosts who tried to kill him and then self-medicate.
William also meets a host, the younger version of one of the park’s founders Robert Ford. The boy says, “Congratulations, William, this game is meant for you. Don’t worry, the game will find you.”
William blows the brain out of the boy anyway, saying, “Well, then. I guess I don’t need you (referring to Ford) anymore.”
Maeve
Maeve lets the writer of the hosts’ storyline survive to help her find her daughter.
Maeve purposely seeks out her fellow host Hector. Maeve says, finding her daughter won’t be easy. Hector says, “Where you go, I’ll follow.”
Bernard
Bernard wakes up on the beach (as shown in the Westworld Season 2 Primer – where many of us were Rickrolled).
Security forces of Delos (the company that owns the Westworld park) are shown executing the surviving hosts.
When Bernard says that some of the hosts aren’t hostile. The head of security says, “Of course they are. After all, you’ve built them to be like us didn’t you.”
Bernard and Charlotte Hale, the Executive Director of Delos, escapes from the hosts who are on a killing spree. Hale leads Bernard to an underground facility where she tries to contact someone at the headquarters of Delos.
The conversation between Hale and somebody from Delos headquarters reveals that there won’t be any rescue operation until one of the hosts, that’s Peter Abernathy (who was given the storyline of being Dolores’ father), is delivered to them.
The End
Bernard and the security forces of Delos end up on another part of the park, a “f -- ing sea” – yep, those words were used. One of the security forces said that there’s no way Ford could’ve built the f-- ing sea without anyone knowing.
Bodies of the dead hosts are seen floating in the f-- ing sea. One of the dead hosts is Teddy. Bernard tells the head of Delos security, “I killed them. All of them.”
