Gender inequality has plagued the film industry for a long time but a new study coming out of the UK makes it pretty stark. Women account for 16% of screenwriters in the UK. Interesting enough however is that they write 28% of tv series.
It's unfortunately a systematic feedback loop that perpetuates the gender imbalance. The good news to take away from this is acknowledging the problem is the first step towards fixing it.
We've also had an incredible wave of new and upcoming female directors in the past few years finally getting the spotlight.
